I thought it was over...

Wife & I use 22's often for IDPA at the price of 22lr looks like we will stick with CF handguns, I will not pay those outrageous prices, IMO brought on by greed on a commodity that has no value.

$200 for 1k rounds is totally insane IMO

1000 rounds of Winchester Super X for $200. Bob

 Wow that's expensive! $100 a brick...

Using the In Stock thread here I got over 3,000 rounds for that same $200 (maybe $225), that's about 7 cents a round compared to your 20 cents a round and I still thought that was way too much! But close to $50 of that was for shipping since I could not buy it all at once.

What was it that P.T. Barnum said? If you don't know just do what an Ostrich does!

It never ceases to amaze me when I hear about, " those hoarders ",. Those are folks that PLANNED AHEAD so if you didn't it stinks to be you but maybe this is a good learning experience. There are calibers I wished I had bought more of but life sometimes gets in the way,.....

I am surprised no one has yet mentioned Homeland Security or some other Government agency buying it all up, or some other unfounded conspiracy theory.

Forget .22, are you insinuating the Fed agencies, DHS, SSA, NSA ect are not buying millions of rounds of ammo like hollow .40 on a indefinite delivery and indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract in some instances, now to include .308:eek: Is that what your saying??

If you guys put in a bit of effort, you can get a brick or two of 22lr online every week. Keep an eye on the threads in the 15-22 forum and have your credit card number at the ready. Better yet, stay logged into Cabela's and Gander Mountain and have your account preloaded with your information. I have been getting at least a brick or two every week for the past month or so and some of the guys on the thread are getting even more (most shops let you buy one per day) but since I cant check all that often at work, I'm limited to when it shows up in the evenings. Average price with shipping to your door is about .06/rd, but a little higher for things like Mini-mags. Last week I got two bricks of Blazers delivered for about $30 each and this week I got a 1000 rd box of M-22s for $58 to my door. You just have to spend a little time looking and be quick (or be ready). It's out there but it goes fast.

Corrected my TYPO above. 1000 rounds of Winchester Super X was actually $129.

Sorry about that.

What I am saying is that you need to check the ground connection on your aluminum foil hat.

I thought the ammo stampede was over. Went to buy .22LR for some fun plunking. Wow! no .22LR to be had. Prices on other types up 33% from last time that I looked. What's going on?

It ain't over till the fat lady sings and I hate to tell you this but I've lost my voice and the doctor said I won't be getting it back. Guess that means no 22lr. for any of us.

On my way back from Tulsa last week, I stopped in Memphis
for a few days to visit family.

I was out and about one day and noticed a Bass Pro Shop.
I went in, and lo' and behold, they had 22LR ammo.

I purchased a 500 round brick of Remington Thunderbolts for $22.00.
They were only selling one brick to a customer, but that was
OK with me, as I am not hoarding it or re-selling it.

I will continue to support stores such as Bass Pro Shops, and
Wal-Mart, and any LGS who are not gouging us on ammo.

1000 rounds of Winchester Super X for $200.

CORREDTED. SORRY I TYPOED THIS ORIGINALLY. The Winchester Super X LR 1500 rounds was $149. The $200 I paid was for 1000 rounds of Hornady V-Max 22 WMR.

Bob

Dude ... your feeding the animals.
the 22 LR should have been around $60 - $75.
you met Ben Dover, and gave him what he wanted

The range I shoot at had a lot of cases of Remington Golden.
12 packs of 525 = 6,300 rounds. Price was $540 ($45/box) which I feel is pretty pricey. Then add tax.
I managed to find 8 boxes of the Goldens last week on another forum. They were the value pack of 550, and I paid $30/box.
You just have to get lucky.
Gunbroker is a total ripoff on ammo. Sure, it's there if you are willing to pay through the nose.

I've heard so many stories about what's going in with 22 and don't know what to believe. I think the real reason has to do with the factories making other calibers (9 and 556 to name a couple of popular caliber) because demand for them is so high.

Pretty sure the machines that make .22 are pretty much dedicated to that caliber & unable to be retooled for others.

The manufacturers all say they are flat out like a lizard drinkin'. ;)

The only place that the price has risen dramatically is at the gun shows in my area. If I walk the aisles for comic relief, I see bricks of CCI Blazer on a table in the 75-90 dollar range. Cabelas gets them in stock and sells them for $27. Makes me chuckle.

Who's stocking ammo? Philip Van Cleave is the president of the VCDL - he is quoted in this article. It seems to me that the more gov that has guns would make it easier to justify civilians to have them also. Everyone needs a form of defense.

US Postal Service Joins in Federal Ammo Purchases

The article you linked states: "Earlier this year, the USPS posted a notice on its website, under the heading "Assorted Small Arms Ammunition," that says: "The United States Postal Service intends to solicit proposals for assorted small arms ammunition. If your organization wishes to participate, you must pre-register. This message is only a notification of our intent to solicit proposals."

An extensive advanced search of www.usps.com, including the terms "proposal for" (133 hits), "small arms" (30 hits), "solicit proposals" (12 hits) turned up nothing even resembling the above.

I find the statement to be highly suspect.
