A few months ago I purchased 2 bricks of .22LR at my local Wal-Mart. Yesterday, I dug them out of the safe to discover that one of the bricks was missing a box of 50. Both bricks were in a special "container" that had the seal intact. I've sent an email to the manufacturer... we'll see what they say. Has this happened to anyone else?

they're only rough because it didn't happen to them.

I feel your pain. I bought 3 boxes of .44mag ammo, 1 mag tech and 2 winchester from a local gun store. I opened at least one of the boxes in the store to look at the ammo. I dont recall if I looked at more than one but when I got home I discovered that all three boxes were short 5 rounds. It was highly suspicious that the ammo was missing from the end of the box that appeared to have never been opened, meaning the tab that tucks in was not bent at all. I think the ******* bought some used ammo either from someone or from an estate sale and purposely put the row of missing ammo at the far end of the box most people would open so that unless you pulled the styrofoam tray all the way out of the cardboard sleeve you would not see the missing ammo. Because all three boxes were missing the same amount of rounds, they all weighed the same so I didnt think anything about how they felt when I picked them up. So each box was missing 10% of the rounds. The price was good for these times but not so good that its an acceptable defense for fraud. It would have been one thing if the boxes were so marked or if the owner, who I was dealing with, disclosed the truth. The old *** just screwed me out of 15 rounds and took my $105 with a smile.

I am concerned now if the rounds are factory loads or reloads. They look good and factory but who knows.

Happened to me once a few years ago when I bought some 12ga Rem STS loads. Grabbed up 6 boxes for a shoot and later found out someone skimmed a couple shells out of 3 of the boxes. I was pissed, now I check, especially shotgun shells since there is no seal.

You assume that the store owner did this? I have news for ya, pal. People shoplift from gun stores all the time. That's exactly how they do it. They always take out a row of rounds then turn the tray around, OR they take a tray of 50 JHP and put it in the box for FMJ and pay the MUCH LOWER FMJ price. More than likely, some customer did it to you, not the store owner. If the store owner wanted to screw you - he wouldn't stiff you for 5 lousy rounds of ammo - he'd sell you a Bersa.

The factories do screw up, over the years I worked at a local shop I found several examples of it. Sealed, plastic 100 packs of 22's with rounds visibly missing from the box or with two different appearing bullets in the same box (noticed when I opened the case and went to price them). I have opened more than one box to show a customer the ammo and found a defective shell in the box, crushed case mouth, mangled bullet, etc. Really good for sales.....not!!

When we kept ammo out front where the customers could handle it we always lost a certain amount to shoplifters. While some would steal a whole box there seemed to be a number who would pocket a few rounds and put the rest back. Sometimes we would find them turned around in the box and sometimes we would find hollow point boxes with ball ammo in them. Eventually we moved all the ammo behind the counter to put a stop to thievery.

I guess I got lucky bought 1000 rds 5.56 and got 1007 instead. Guess I should send them back as my concise is bothering me, never mind it doesn't bother me that bad. Need to get calibrated hands so you can feel you been shorted and no I've been lucky haven't been shorted yet AFAIK.

I was at the range on Saturday, and found at least a dozen seemingly good .22LR rounds under the benches.

There were also a few that were obvious miss-feeds/damaged, and one that had firing pin marks, but the rest look fine. I guess some folks have enough to throw away. And as these were under a number of the benches, I'm pretty sure this was several people.

The person paid for a product and did not receive all his items seems to be a problem.
I suppose if you went and bought a car and only got 3 tires it wouldn't bother you. Same case in point you bought a item, paid what they wanted, and got shorted. Doesn't happen all the time but does happen.
Looks to me this person was giving a heads up to others. I've been shorted before with other items and usually got reimbursed, I doubt it will work for ammo now though.
