Hello:
I have a Model 28-2, serial #N274610 revolver and would very much like to learn what the markings stamped on the frame (under the grips) represent. On the left side are:
G12; x64x2; G7; G3. One the right side are: a capital letter "F" in a circle; a capital letter "J" in a triangle.
I would appreciate any help you might be able to provide.

These are all factory inspectors stamps, applied at various stages during manufacture.
These stamps only have significance inside the factory and the exact meaning or inspector is usually not known outside the factory.

I believe x64x2 is the assembly number that is stamped on pre-fitted parts. It should also be stamped on the inside surface of the yoke (opposite the serial number that is stamped in the yoke cut).

nbjim,
Welcome to the S&W Forum. You are going to like it here. You mentioned to me in an email that your Model 28-2 is nickel plated. We'd love to see pictures of it. My hunch is that it is not a factory finish. The experts here will be able to confirm that.

Sorry, didn't see the serial was posted.

It's a re-finish. The last 28-2 in factory brushed nickel was N596XX with only five digits. Yours is a six digit. Bet it looks keen though. Enjoy!

BTW......................WELCOME!
