I have what I believe to be a K38 Combat Masterpiece serial # is K588241 and when I swing the cylinder out it says Model 14-2. Can anyone tell me the date shipped or manufactured?

If it's a 14 it's more properly called just "Masterpiece."

Sounds like 1964 timeframe. Maybe someone with one with a close serial and a factory letter can tighten that up, but even popular guns like the 14 didn't always ship in order.

Welcome to the Forum.

The 6" revolver is the Masterpiece. The 2" and 4" barrels are the Combat Masterpieces and should be marked M15, though sometimes a M14 stamped frame is used to build a Combat Masterpiece.

If you have a S & W revolver that looks like a Model 15, with a 4 inch heavy barrel and the stamping "14-2" in the yoke area, you may have a "Hanen Special" or a "Dayton Special", as it may be referred to by either moniker. If that is the case, you are very lucky.
