If only one gun? Can't do it...

Each handgun has a specific task and or history so it would be tough.

Last five to go would be:

5-S&W 640 no dash, daily pocket carry. (My wife has two of these.)
4-G19 Gen 4, daily carry.
3-G26 Gen 4, truck gun.
2-Sig 228 KA version, I've got some history with this one.
1-Colt Frontier Scout 22 Mag, single action. My fathers pistol.

As we can carry as many of our own as we can or want--I choose as many from my teeney tiny collection as possible. Handguns and Rifles. Not saying what calibers though.

Only on gun....to do everything? I don't currently own one but a 16-50 or a 16-66! That's a 16" naval canon either 50 or 66 bore diameters long! A little rough on deer hunting but very good at Home defense (or is that Homeland Defense?)!

Ivan

Oh, but then you would need a 5 inch or AEGIS for AA defence.;)

The closest for me would be the Sig P320, simply because you can buy X - change kits to change the size, caliber, etc. without having to actually buy another gun.

I'd still probably want some sort of rifle (such as an M&P Sport 15/22) as well though, even with that.

Honestly if I were limited to just one handgun, the choice is easy. Practicality would override everything else. I need a tool for self defense that has minimal parts count without adversely affecting reliable function, easy to maintain, vast aftermarket support, inexpensive parts, and affordable magazines. It would have to be a Glock 19.

Thank God I don't have to make that choice. :)

Okay, I am okay with down to five handguns

1. 1911a1
2. 25-2 (45 acp) - 6.5 inch - had since new in 1980
3. 686 - six inch
4. Luger - because I love them
5. S&W Model 10 Heavy Barrel

Only one handgun would either be a 1911 .45 or an N frame .44 (preferably a Mag, which is currently not in the collection), although my New Service .44 might be the one.

If we're talking about bare minimum I'm pretty pedestrian, and brings it to 4. Add in a pump 12ga, a .30'06 and a CZ .22 bolt and its all you need.....not as much fun, but puts the meat on the table.

I believe it depends on what stage of life you are in. When I was young it would have been my 357 N frame---defense, hunting etc. When I was working, it would have been my BHP which I carried for 40+ years. Now in retirement it is my 17-1 which I use for fun shooting and I could make do with it to defend my home.

I envy the guy who has one gun, and is happy. On the one hand variety is the spice of life.

But to have one gun that does everything you need, and not even desire another. That would be true happiness.

I suspect they are out there, but don't frequent gun forums.

I started reading this thinking my only gun would have to be a .357 but then remembered my 1911's.

At this point in my life I'd probably go with my G19 or Sig M11A1. Either would cover my day to day needs adequately.

Would be interesting to see what Mod.BLUES would choose!! Bet it will be a GLOCK!

The Head Keeps:
Probably the gun i shoot the least-Glock 19. I have a .22 AA conversion kit in it and shoot it mostly in the .22 format. I have a 43, 26,& 34 to workout my "Glock urges" and while the 19 in my opinion is the best all round Glock the others are better at CC or range work. I have to include 1/2 of a gun to the list-Ruger LCP Custom. It is in my pocket most days. The LCP has been amazingly accurate and reliable. If I didn't have the AA conversion kit I think I would go with the G26 over the 19. A lot easier to hide under a tee shirt in Texas weather and it shoots really well.
The Heart Keeps:
Practical uses aside, my favorite handguns are revolvers. Just bought a 686 Plus Performance Center yesterday. I have a model 65 3" work over by the Smith Custom Shop when Smith had real gunsmiths and a number of SA .357s and .22s. The Heart would keep the model 65 and PC 686.

Your favorites are all smaller, which is more versatile.

My favorites are tend to be larger guns.

1) Colt 1911 (series 80)
2) S&W model 539
3) S&W model 57 6 inch barrel (41 mag)
4) S&W model 686P 2.5 inch (.357 mag)

These threads are always hard.........
but if only one.................... mine would be my 4" 686 with a round butt....shot shells and wadcutters to full bore .357.......versatile .... good stock of speedloaders........... and it can be carried concealed if needed......................

Paired with my Winchester Trapper and/or Ruger 77/357 , .357 carbines I'm good to go for almost anything short of WWIII

then add a Model 18 ........ my 3" 66 ......... Model 3913NL and finally a hi-cap 9mm........ 5906 .

I don't have one favorite. My small collection are "all favorites" for different reasons.
