If you bought a new S&W recently and love it... tell us!

Bought a 3" 629-1 with 20 rds through it. Like freaking new, comes tomorrow, the wait is killing me. $1200. No box, papers, or tools...

In the 70s early 80s I lived in CA and the 2-week waiting period killed me. It moved so slooooooow. Now, when you buy off the Internet (because your LGS rarely sees any used guns except Glocks and Ruger Single Sixes) you mail a cashier's check off, the gun -- which is never packed in anticipation of your payment -- goes out to get packed, it ships eventually, and by the time it arrives, it's been a week or ten days. So living in a state with no waiting period is wasted unless you buy a new gun. I'm dead to modern S&Ws, but I appreciate that they hang in there with Colt (oops, no more DA revolvers), Taurus (ummm...), and Ruger, who at least has the sense not to change anything.

On vacation this week. Just got a new sd9ve and have a Detroit police issue 38 special nickel plated revolver passed down from my dad(retired 30 year vet). Plan to hit range this week. Very excited to to shoot them both

About a month ago I bought a 642 for my wife as her new carry weapon to replace the model 60.

Several months ago I bought a Lew Horton 24-3 still in the box.

629 current gen, with 4" barrel. Altamont rosewood combat grips. Shoots way better than I. Beautiful weapon. Call it The Hammer of Thor for obvious reasons. Love it. Bought a Galco instructors reinforced belt and a high rise Galco paddle holster. Feeling dirty, like Harry.

I walked into the shop to look for primers and for some 22 ammo. I was talking with the sales / manager that I know well. We walked over to look at the revolvers while talking and catching up, and I asked him IF he had a 642. He said yes and that he had just taken in a new one on trade with the CT grips.

On the way to the counter I asked if he had any without the locks. He said no, they all have the locks. When we got to the revolver area laying right there and brand new was a 642 no lock with no CT grips. Had to be there for me . :)

I havent fired it yet, but while its trigger is a heavier pull, it was smooth and consistent throughout the travel and the hammer came home with a convincing whack. It has a good feel to it in the hand.

After he packed it up in its box and I paid, I had to check and be sure there was a revolver in that box it was so light weight. :)

Recent S&W purchases

Recently bought a 627PC ( 170133 ). Fantastic firearm, especially for winter carry. It is unbelievably accurate for a 2.625" barrel. I loved it so much that I bought a 627PC ( 170210 ) 5" barrel, which also works for winter carry with coats required in winter. These are the two best handguns I've ever owned in over 30 years. I still have the 686 I bought new in 1985 and it still rocks! For spring/summer carry, I am now looking for a 640 Pro Series ( 178044 ) but have not yet been able to find a new one... anywhere... still looking. The customer service of S&W far exceeds any other weapon manufacturer that I've encountered in over 3 decades. That fact, along with the high quality of their products, have made me a very loyal S&W customer. Wishing all the very best to you and yours.

Update....
I took my sd9ve to the range and loved it. I found the trigger to be smooth and consistant. I'm used to a 38 special so converting was easy. First mag I shot was low and left but after adjustments I was grouping two inch marks.

I really have a lot more interest in the older models, but S&W didn't make this particular configuration until just a few years ago, so here we are. I have acquired a 351c which was built in March of this year.

There are no issues with this revolver. It's as clean, tight, and functional as the price tag suggests it should be.

I also inspected a few other 2013 specimens recently placed on this dealer's shelf, and was impressed. I suspect a policy decision was made to pay more attention to the revolver division quality control.

See post 16 about new 351PD:

Mod 617-6, 10 shot. First S&W with a Lock, but is a very well made, extremely accurate gun of great quality and a good crisp trigger. Is as good as any of my older 17's and 18's.

Earlier this year bought a new 63-5 stainless J frame 22LR 3 inch bbl. with adj. sights. What a great little shooter. Flawless thus far. No extraction issues even after all kinds of 22 ammo, and for some reason more accurate for me than my 5 inch bbl. 63. Then a couple of weeks ago bought a new 3 inch 60-15 in 357 basically same configuration as the 63. Another great buy. Smooth trigger and good accuracy right out of the box. No quality issues with either gun. Maybe I'm just lucky, but all of my Smiths, old and new, have been top notch. Boy do I love that 60-15.

Model 19-7 with 2 1/2 barrel, a 586-5 with 4 inch barrel and a Ruger 10/22 Takedown with threaded barrel,BX-25 mag and bird cage flash suppressor this week. A very good week for me thats for sure. There is also the possibility of a new 10mm in my future if the stars and planets line up for me. Add finding a 4 leaf clover and it just might happen.

Just got a Bodyguard 38 and installed hogue tamer grips (#60020)... black of course, not the pink ones LOL. anyway the little guy shoots very well, no accuracy problems evident at 5 or 10 yards. Haven't tried anything further yet... with a snubbie, maybe I never will. Muzzle flip's not bad either. Love the gun, though, super light to carry. I also haven't tried the +P stuff yet...but imagine it will pack a kick for a 38 with this little weight.

First S&W, 638-3, a couple months ago and love this gun. Carry it in front pocket of my fishing waders and am pocket carrying as well. It shoots way better that I expected. Definitely won't be last S&W.

I have bought:

M&P 40 FS
M&P 9 FS
442 (No IL)
40 Blue ( I love the look of it with the bronze T grip)

I have had no issues with any of them. I probably would have bought a 638 and a 642 with the 2.5 inch barrel except I cannot get past the hole but I am beginning to waver on that!

I bought a Model 640 Pro Series about three weeks ago, and got it out on the range the first time about two weeks ago. I love the sights, the trigger pull is fantastic, the balance is great, the fit and finish is impeccable, and it fits my hand oh so well. My only complaint is the danged ammo drought; however, I do have three or four boxes of .38spcl and I know where I can get a box of WWB 110gr .357mag if I need it.

My first time out on the range with it was mostly just too get a feel for it. Great gun! I started focusing on accuracy on the last 25 rounds (WWB 110grn SJHP .357mag), and was pleasantly surprised. When the ammo situation clears up, I'll take it out more often. But right now, I've got to say that I really like it and think it's the best revolver I've ever owned. (I'm using the rest of the WWB 110grainers for my carry ammo. It's not a perfect solution, but it's the best self-defense ammo I can find right now).

PC M627 GOOD TO GO

Just bought a Performance Center M627 last week. It had just arrived at the local dealer. Very pleased to snap it up the day after it arrived. A handsome weapon in deed.

As a long-time collector of pre-lock K-frames, I finally *had* to see for myself what a new Smith K-frame was really like. So I bought a new Model 67 .38 last week. This gun is perfect. Must be the CNC machining, but the sideplate fit is perfect, the yoke/crane fit is perfect, the barrel alignment is perfect, everything about the manufacture is, well, perfect. Even the barrel finish matches the frame. Compared to my Smith's from 60's-80's vintage, this one has the best fit and finish. No joke. And this is coming from a guy who has over 30 pre-lock Smith & Wesson revolvers and who never thought he could ever buy anything recent. Don't beleive the hype, the new ones are great.
