If you could design your own S&W revolver.....

New: blued 617, call it the "517" if you will - 10rd .22lr in 4" and 6"

Old: revive the 4" 586+ they ran in 2005, and 3" 581.

The Governor "Frontier Justice" XVR with a 4" half-lug barrel, adjustable rear sights.

A Magnum variant of the Governor built on the X Frame chambered in 460 S&W Magnum and .410 Bore 3" Shotshells.

I'm a fan of the combination .45LC/.410 Bore Revolvers like the Taurus Judge and Smith & Wesson Governor, but I'd like one chambered in a more powerful magnum cartridge. Taurus makes one called the Raging Judge chambered in .454 Casull/.410, but it's massively overbuilt, extremely heavy, and doesn't look anything like the regular Judge or Governor. Furthermore, unlike some other Taurus brand firearms, the Raging Judge isn't bargain-priced, ergo if Smith & Wesson chose to compete with it, the price difference between the two would be much closer than it is between the Judge and Governor, thus making it more than just an attractive alternative, but an all around better option.

The versatility of such a firearm would be unprecedented, considering that it would be capable of chambering .410 Bore 2.5" and 3" Shotshells, .45 Colt, .454 Casull, .460 S&W Magnum, and .45 ACP with moon clips all in the same configuration without needing to swap out the cylinder or anything. As such, it could easily be marketed as the ultimate Wilderness Defense Revolver, capable of handling anything from small poisonous snakes to a mighty Grizzly Bear.

Taurus made a 3-inch barrelled "Raging Judge" Ultra-Lite[emoji768] with SEVEN (7) Chambers for .45 Colt and 2 1/2-inch or 3-inch .410 shotshells that weighed in at a svelte 41.4 ounces. It has since been discontinued.

The Best Design

Two birds can be killed with one stone in this survey. The perfect design already exists, the S&W Mod. 27! All that S&W would have to do, is just start to produce it again in it's original design! "BINGO", problem solved In one "Fell Swoop" The S&W Mod. 27, was always S&W's "Top of the Line Revolver, the one that S&W took the most pride in, made the most options available for, made available in the most sizes, "Gussied Up" the most, and offered the most accessories for. It's a "Hands Down Favorite" for this survey. Just my opinion.

I'm aware of that model, but it honestly doesn't appeal to me. I don't like the look of the Raging Judge either, too chunky, too overbuilt.

I agree. My brother loves his 2 1/2 inch chambered Judge, and I'm not terribly impressed. Not a big fan of the Governor, either.

Lot's of really great idea's here, if they became reality I'd quickly go broke.

My idea for a new revolver is a K frame, 6 shot, version of the 340 M&P no lock.

As far as resurrecting a revolver I'd opt for the 3" Model 65-3 or the 520 NYSP.

I like the look of the Judge and Governor, but not the Raging Judge.

I own a Taurus Judge Magnum which serves as my bedside Home Defense firearm, which I like the look of.

If S&W could make a model which looks like a scaled up X Frame version of the Governor, then I would be all over that. In fact, I'll bet that it would actually improve the overall look of the Governor by making it look more balanced since the elongated cylinder would stand out less on the X Frame since it's so big and the 460XVR has quite a long (1.80") cylinder to begin with.

What he said........!
The older I get, the less attractive the 4 inch S&W Model 686-6 I carry on my duty belt gets. My 2 inch Model 12-2 and 1.875 inch Model 642-2 combined weigh 4.3 ounces less than my service revolver, and I have 11 rounds available without reloading.

Mine:

aluminum K frame
round butt
adjustable sights
5" aluminum (steel sleeved) half lug barrel
10 shot 22lr
matte black finish
checkered banana grips

And a modern +P 3" version of a model 12 round butt. No fancy ****, straight retro styling.

O1. X-frame chambered in .30 caliber the same cartridge that is used in the m1 carbine

2. Model one tip up in .22 long rifle.

4 1/4" barrel m69 with fixed sights
Have a remake of the old no2
Always thought they were beautiful guns
Just don't make it in 32 please

1. K frame Scandium 3" adj sights, 38 Spl. Steel cylinder and barrel liner. 6 shot. Just a little nose heavy on balance in the hand.

2. 3 inch 581 357 with adjustable sights.
Adjustables are needed on 38/357 because bullet weight/velocity move POI so much.
3. Bring back the six round 357 Mountain Gun as originally manufactured.
