If you could only have 6 firearms

Glock 19 Gen 4, Glock 17 Gen 5, Glock 26 Gen 5, S&W M&P 15-22, S&W 500 Magnum 6.5 barrel, Mossberg Shockwave 12 Ga.

I went with the Shockwave in 20. As the arthritis worsens, 12 became unmanageable. And even 20 in that format is rough.

I believe that the Shockwave also comes in .410 now. That might be a consideration! I know a lot of people deride the .410 in a handgun, but in a 14" barrel it might do better...and at self/home defense distance, it should be adequate with SD loads.

The SR 1911 Commander in 9mm is a winner as well!

Ruger has now released an Officer size model in 9mm...I may have to increase my self-imposed restriction to add one to my "arsenal." However, that is how the slippery slope is...there is always one more. Dang it.

I'd have to go with 7

1. good 12 ga pump/auto with multi barrels/chokes: (for deer, game & defense)
2. .22 revolver/pistol for small game/defense
3. .22 rifle for game/varmints
4. .223/.308/.30-06/8MM high powered rifle for game/defense
5. 9mm, 40 S&W,.357/.44/.45 revolver/pistol for game/personal defense
6. J-frame/mini auto hide out gun
7. 20 ga. shotgun for SO/wife for: (small game, birds, deer & defense)

OK, I'll play.
First off, I don't think my life will change all that much in the next 20 years so I will use the last 40 years as as to what firearms I have used and need.

#1 would be my deer/elk rifle. I have more expensive, exotic or rarer rifles then this plain Jane Mark X Mauser, but it fits me, has iron sights and is chambered in the .30-06, which if you are a reloader makes it pretty versatile.
#2 is my Winchester 52. It probably would be better to pick a 10-22 or a marlin 39, but I like the weight and accuracy of this one.
#3 My LC Smith 16 gauge field grade. I hunt mostly upland game and this has been my go to shotgun for the last 10 years.
#4 1911 Commander. 45 ACP. Can't think of a better CCW for me.
#5 Smith and Wesson outdoorsman. Maybe it would be better to pick a Ruger semi auto or my Model 18, but I like the weight and the sight radius plus I shoot it well.
#6 The last one is the hardest. Perhaps I would be better served by picking an AR15 or Ruger Mini 14 or a MI carbine in case the zombies come over the hill, but it hasn't happened yet and I carry and shoot this Colt New Frontier a lot. So it is my last choice.
This is just a fun exercise. I do not condone or advocate the limiting of the number of firearms one should be able to own.

I cannot list any of my guns. Unfortunately they've all been lost in a boating accident ;):D

A 12 gauge pumpgun
22 rifle (pump, auto, or bolt)
High powered bolt rifle(308,30-06,270,7mm)
22 revolver (5"bbl or longer)
357 or heavier, double action revolver(4"min bbl)
Pistol caliber carbine (same caliber as revolver above)

If this were a SHTF scenario, then everything would be SS, the 22's would all be manual actions(can use S,L,LR ammo) as the .22 revolver can. 12 gauge would be 3" chamber with at least 2 bbl's(18" cyl bore, 28" with screw in chokes. My ideal roster would be as follows:
Remington 12 gauge 870.
Henry small game lever 22
Winchester model 70 in 270 Winchester
Smith and Wesson K22 with a 6" bbl
Smith and Wesson 629 44 mag
Winchester model 92 in 44 Mag
