Illinois gun ban?

just another prime example of the hugh waste of tax dollars!!!

when will people wake up and end this egotistic control??

As I understand it, Cullerton realized he did not have the votes to make this pass so he declined to even bring it for a vote. Doesn't mean he won't try something again later but lame duck session only lasts a few more days.

For now our guns and hi cap mags are safe.

I wouldn't put it past them to try and run this through again in a few weeks after the new legislators roll in...

These bills were only shelved for the time being. Word is that they may show up again as early as next week, courtesy of Gov. Quinnochio and Rahm Emmanuel, and they may try to circulate them to the House. Good thing I've already been pestering them with emails and letters. Time to make some more phone calls too.

Yup. They are not dead at all. There are rumors of a Sunday vote. The Illinois State Rifle Association has posted on their home page that it could be voted on any time up until Wednesday.

They are going to vote on SUNDAY. I have the feeling that they will just keep pushing till they get there way. This State is cooked, I truly need to sell our house and go to a State not run by libatards.

I found this on another forum. SB2988 is the bill that is going to be voted on by the Illinois House Judiciary Committee tomorrow:
Please visit this site and fill out the witness form to to oppose SB2988. It only takes a minute and can make a huge difference. Insert NA for Firm and Title. You do not have to leave your e-mail address if you prefer not to. Near the bottom of the form, click the box that says (Opponent) and (Record Of Appearance Only).

First the Senate now the House of Representatives

The Senate gave up temporarily so now the House will vote Sunday. Illinois is broke and gun bashing is popular right now so it is a handy diversion away from the real problems. Two of the last three govenors are doing time right now. Downstate is not a bad place to live but Chicago is calling the shots.

From Guns Save Life Champaign County:

They're baaaack! Illinois House to take up gun, mag bans & range-killing legislation Sunday evening

Michael Madigan has a plan up his sleeve to take away your favorite guns used to protect yourself, your family and your family's home from violent attack.

We have it on good authority that House Speaker Michael Madigan will allow leftist Chicago Democrats an opportunity to pass the same legislative language recently "postponed" in the Illinois Senate for a lack of votes for passage.

The Illinois House will take up the measures Sunday evening at 5:00pm when they convene.

The gun-grabbing statists surely have a tentative headcount indicating they believe they can pass the measure or they wouldn't be bringing it up for a needless embarrassing defeat.

No doubt they are hoping that if they can sneak it through the Illinois House on Sunday night when people are thinking about football or family instead of their civil rights. This would give them another opportunity to reconvene the Illinois Senate and that the currently absent Illinois Senate members supportive of the measure will have returned in time to hold a vote to pass the measure to the governor.

What to do?

It's time to warm up their phone lines. Start calling today. Your calls saved the say in the Senate. It's time to do the same for the House.

Start off by calling House Speaker Michael Madigan's office. Melt his phone lines with calls.

Here's Madigan's office number in Springfield: (217) 782-5350

If his voicemail is full, call his district office here: (773) 581-8000

Let them know: We oppose restrictions on our firearm civil rights. We oppose gun bans, mag bans, and range restrictions.
After calling Madigan's office, call your local State Representative. Don't have the number handy? We can help. Click here.

Gun control bills fail in Senate, but House may make its own push
Friday, Jan 4, 2013

* The Senate Democratic leadership did not have a good week…

On guns, the Senate Wednesday advanced out of committee two bills that would ban an array of automatic and semi-automatic weapons plus the ammunition they need to operate.

But the measures withered under a furious pushback from the National Rifle Association and other gun-rights advocates, who told the Sun-Times Thursday that neither measure had more than 27 or 28 votes in the Senate, shy of the 30 needed for passage.

Cullerton acknowledged the votes weren't there for either gun bill but said "we learned about potential ways to enhance those bills. Those bills, of course, will be taken up in the next General Assembly."

* More…

Sen. Dan Kotowski, D-Park Ridge, said the failure to call the gun bills also was because some supporters were absent.

"The reality is, in order to get it passed, we have to have people in their seats," he said.

Gun rights supporters said the assault weapons ban, as written, would outlaw the sale of far more guns than military-style assault weapons. A second bill to ban the sale of large-capacity ammunition magazines would be unworkable, they said.

* But it's not over. yet House staff has reportedly contacted the NRA to let them know that Gov. Pat Quinn and Mayor Emanuel will attempt to push a gun and magazine ban when the chamber reconvenes for the lame duck session this coming Sunday.

Senate President Cullerton has said he will call his chamber back on Tuesday if there's anything to do. But attendance issues are going to be a problem then as well.

…Adding… IR has ISRA's take on the Senate proposals…

- The Illinois State Police would be given full control over the design and operation of commercial gun ranges in the state. That control would extend from the design of the bullet backstops to qualifications of range employees and even to the color of the paint on the walls of the men's room. The State Police would determine the hours of operation, what types and calibers of firearms could be discharged at the range, and even a minimum number of square feet. Every range customer would have to undergo a background check and each customer's visit would be logged by the range operator. Any Illinois law enforcement agency could conduct unannounced and warrantless inspections and searches of ranges at any time. Those searches and inspections would extend to range customers and their property. That means that the Chicago Police Department would have the authority to raid a range in Peoria and roust the customers of that range. The bottom line is, this range regulation proposal has the sole objective of running commercial shooting ranges out of business. We had never seen anything like this before, but the intent was clear.

- All semi-automatic firearms would be either banned outright, or be so severely taxed and restricted that ownership would be impractical. We expected to see attempts to ban or regulate AR and AK type firearms, but what we saw in Cullerton's proposal carried that to an extreme. Cullerton's gun ban would extend to all semiautomatic rifles, pistols and shotguns. Additionally, many pump action rifles and shotguns would be banned as well. This ban would include such classics as the 1911 and the M1 Garand. Of course, all Glocks, Sig-Sauers, and other popular pistols would be banned as well. Estimates are that about 50% of rifles and 80% of handguns lawfully-owned by Illinois citizens would be subject to ban and confiscation under the Cullerton gun ban.

- A bizarre and convoluted scheme to register all "ammunition feeding devices" capable of holding more than 10 rounds – including magazines, stripper clips, drums, etc. Since none of these devices possess serial numbers, owners of these devices would essentially register them under the "honor system." Of course, we all know how well criminals stick to the honor system.

Illinois State Rifle Association

We have to pull together and do everything we can to stop this. It really is the type of thing that communist and fascist governments do. There is nothing in it that would do a thing about crime, but instead it would solely harass and confiscate the property of law abiding citizens and treat us like criminals. Among other things (and there are many other things), according to the ISRA:

1. It would pick your pocket to pay for the confiscation and destruction of your own guns.

2. It would ban more than 50% of the rifles and more than 80% of handguns owned by Illinois citizens.

If you live in Illinois and are not a member of the ISRA and NRA, please, please join. You don't have to agree with every thing these groups do. In the current environment, it's way beyond considerations like that. They are the only organizations with the power to help us.

I CANNOT FIND A MAP OF HOUSE DISTRICTS IN ILLINOIS! THIS IS REALLY GETTING FRUSTRATING! Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I support the second amendment. I also am requesting your vote of a "NO"
to any and all upcoming bills, state and federal, for any banning of
Assault type firearms and large capacity ammunition magazines. We, the
people, oppose restrictions on our firearm civil rights. We oppose gun
bans, mag bans, and range restrictions.

Please take great consideration to our Constitution rights on the 2nd
amendment.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

So I've dropped several dimes on my legislators, politely explaining my displeasure over these bills. And am continuing to call!
My question though is will the ISP enforce these illegal bills if they do go into being a law? It's obviously a come back to the U.S. Appellate Courts ruling on the ban on concealed carry. Now they are trying to push an unconstitutional law down our throats and make a lot if decent law-abiding citizens criminals!
Ladies and Gentlemen of Illinois.... IT'S TIME TO ROLL!!!

Dear Mr. **

Thank you for contacting me about an amendment to the Cybersecurity Act of 2012 (S. 3414) to prohibit the transfer or possession of large capacity ammunition feeding devices.

On July 25, 2012, Senator Frank Lautenberg of New Jersey introduced this amendment. A large capacity ammunition feeding device is defined as any magazine, belt, drum, feed strip, or similar device that has the capacity to include 10 rounds of ammunition, excluding .22 caliber rim fire ammunition. The amendment also would require any capacity feeding device manufactured after the date of the enactment to be identified by a serial number indicating when it was manufactured.

Americans are entitled to own and use guns in a responsible manner. Strong penalties for violent crimes involving firearms should be part of an effort to reduce gun violence. Throughout my time in Congress, I have supported a variety of strong crime control initiatives and efforts to combat the illegal possession and use of firearms.

Although, we may disagree on this issue, I appreciate having your views and hope that you will not hesitate to contact me in the future on matters of importance to you.

Thank you again for your message. Please feel free to keep in touch.

Sincerely,

Richard J. Durbin

Here is my response from Senator Durbin

Thank you for your message about gun control. I appreciate knowing your views on this important issue.

Americans are entitled to own and use guns in a responsible fashion. Strong penalties for violent crimes involving firearms should be part of any effort to reduce gun violence. I have consistently supported tough crime control and prevention initiatives since coming to Congress.

Enforcing our nation's existing gun control laws must remain a high priority. I support efforts that address illegal possession and use of firearms. Common sense restrictions such as the Brady Law and the Assault Weapons Ban are supported by law enforcement officials who must patrol our streets. These laws help protect people from crime and violence without infringing on legitimate hunting and sporting uses of firearms.

I will continue to support efforts that help ensure our nation's gun laws are vigorously enforced. Thank you once again for contacting me.

Please feel free to stay in touch.
Sincerely,
Richard J. Durbin
United States Senator
