Below is a copy of an email I received from the Illinois State Rifle Association. If you are from Illinois, please read this and do your part. ALSO, HERE IS A LINK TO A PAGE ON ILLINOIS CARRY THAT HAS LINKS TO ALL THE BILLS COMING BEFORE COMMITTEE, THE APPROPRIATE WITNESS SLIPS, AND CONTACT INFORMATION FOR THE MEMBERS OF THE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE. Action Alert - Right to Carry and Other Gun Bills to Be Heard In Committee - Illinois Politics - IllinoisCarry.com

"The Illinois House Judiciary Committee has announced a pair of hearings on proposals to eliminate 2nd Amendment rights here in Illinois. Information on these two committee hearings is as follows:

1. Tuesday, 19 February, at Noon in Room 114 of the State Capitol Building, Springfield.

2. Friday, 22 February, at 10:00 AM, Room 600, Bilandic Building, 160 North LaSalle St., Chicago

During each of these hearings, committee members will be debating just how they plan to eliminate private firearm ownership in Illinois. They will certainly be discussing means to ban and confiscate 85% of the firearms currently owned by Illinois citizens. They will also be discussing how to confiscate magazines holding more than 10 rounds. Other topics of debate will also include “universal licensing and registration,” shutting down gun shows, and restricting concealed carry.

It is critically important that law-abiding firearm owners flood both committee meetings. Otherwise, anti-gunners will take control of the meetings with disastrous results for freedom loving citizens. Be sure to get to the meeting rooms at least a half hour early to ensure that you get a seat. Be sure to wear IGOLD shirts and hats. If you see members of the media there, approach them and tell them you are a law-abiding gun owner and you do not support further gun control.

If you cannot attend either of these meetings, they please complete an on-line witness slip for each meeting by going to these two sites:

Witness Slip

and

Witness Slip

Contact your representative in the Illinois House and urge him or her to join you in not supporting any further gun control in Illinois. This is especially important if your representative has changed since the last election.

Are you not sure who your representative is? The Illinois State Board of Elections has a new interactive search page here:
District/Official Search

Keep in mind that your rights are under sustained attack! We cannot let up on our defense of the 2nd Amendment. It is highly critical that you let these committee members know how you feel.

HERE’S ADDITIONAL THINGS YOU NEED TO DO TO SAVE YOUR GUNS:

1. Give copies of this alert to all your friends, neighbors and relatives. Tell them to follow the instructions carefully.

2. Post this alert to any and all Internet blogs or bulletin boards to which you belong.

3. Join or Renew your membership to the ISRA. Also, a monetary donation would help us greatly in our fight to preserve and protect your right to keep and bear arms.

REMEMBER: Gun control is a disease, you are the cure."

Thanks. I'll start emailing the committee members

Also, here is a link to the Chicago Police Department 2011 murder summary:

https://portal.chicagopolice.org/po...s/Statistical Reports/Murder Reports/MA11.pdf

There were 433 murders in Chicago in 2011. If you look at the profiles for both the offenders and victims, you will find that 80+% of both were between 17-35, were male, and had prior arrest records. So, at least 80% of the offenders should not have possessed a firearm anyway. Moreover, the offenders appear to target a specific opponent.

Also, approximately 33% of the murders were classifed as gangland/narcotics related. Significantly, another 1/3 were unclassifed as to motive. Based on the offender/victim profiles I suggest there is a strong possibility that the unclassified 1/3 might also be gangland/narcotics related. The motive for the remaining 1/3 were mixed across all other motives

Finally--a rifle was used in only one (1) of 433 murders. Shotguns in 5 murders. There is no description of the operating system of the rifle or the shotguns, or whether they would be classifed as "assault weapons"

Pass it on to Illinois legislators.

A divided country (sound familiar).

As I have said before, it all starts at the top........the VERY top!

I think the bill numbers should HB0132 and SB0042. These are House and Senate versions of the AWB and large capacity mag bans. I can't find the listed bill numbers on the ISRA website or the General Assembly website.

Perhaps one State should try confiscation, just to see what we do about it?

Its a double edge sword. On one hand Id hate to see something get to that point and on the other hand Id like to see how the deal with mass non compliance. How exactly would they enforce it...the court systems are jammed as it is with "real" criminals and prison systems are at max capacity.

I really think they believe that just b/c they pass a law and say its so, that people will just comply. A law is only as good as what the compliance is to go along with it.

I couldn't either. At this point, I think there are two hearings, which the witness slips are for.

Ok. The HB was referred to the house judiciary committee. I'll post my opposition tonight with a written statement. Both the HB and the SB are require registration of existing ARs and other "AW", prohibit new ones, and prohibit possession of and mag more than 10 rounds- no grandfathering of existing mags. Just a period of time to dispose of mags. Or you are a felon

If recent history repeats, they will hopefully avoid the term illegal firearm and use the more acceptable term undocumented personal defense weapon. :)

Double edged or not, a lot of politicians talk about "sensible" gun restrictions. I think their real meaning is outright bans. Instead of dancing around the issue and ending our rights slowly over years of one limitation upon another, they should have the courage to do what they really believe. Many gun owners say no never. An old saying goes something like Money talks. BS walks, can be applied to this issue as well. First step is to beat them at the ballot box. If that is not successful, beat them in court. If that is not successful, appeal to a higher court, until the highest court stands with the despots. It will be then we find out if we have the money or the BS.

thats why they push compromise so hard. Compromise is nothing but giving away some part of your rights. They often do not go full tilt for what they really want, they know that is not possible but minor changes here and there and they eventually get what they want. Look at all the amazing feets accomplished by Americans over the years. The Transcontinental rail road, Mount Rushmore, Hoover Dam, all incredible tasks that were slowly accomplished one small part at a time, this is exactly how gun legislation works on a mass scale. Except for the large steps taken by NY and being attempted by CT, IL, CO, CA

Ok. I filled out forty two witness slips (for myself, wife, and son) today and wrote my legislators. How about you? If you haven't voiced your opinion, please do so today. Hearings start soon. Stand up and be counted, or Illinois will go the way of New York.

I filled out a slip on ALL of the legislation that was on the website.

I also forwarded the link to every person I know that lives in Illinois.

Well I guess they didn't learn the first time! I'll start calling again Tuesday after the holiday, and continue to hound them till I go hoarse!
But I am curious has to how our legislators would react if we did say,"No thanks!"and didn't comply? The ISA has already said they wouldn't go along with this!
In any event I do intend to fight, one way or another! Dale
