With the few reports that have pop up about how the trigger sucks and this and that I decided to check out a new production M&P 9, I'm happy to report that I'm impressed with the trigger and fit and finish. The one I handled trigger broke very clean and had a distinctive reset, I have a pro 4.25 and try to decide whether getting a pro long slide or an other 4.25 and add some night sights. I was kind of thinking about a Glock but after trying this new production M&P no thanks I will stick to S&W.

My M&Ps were made in 2009 and 2013. Neither had a factory trigger that was bad and further cleaned up with a couple hundred rounds. I have handles one in an LGS that had the horrible trigger that everyone describesz, but ive been fortunate not to get one delivered to me. One really nice benefit of the M&P trigger is the smooth face. You don't get a blister on your trigger finger from shooting like can happen with some Glocks.

Remember, for everyone that describes a "horrible" trigger, there are probably 1000 others that sit quietly and enjoy the stock trigger.

There can be lemons or out-of-spec guns the crop up, but the vast majority have a trigger that is fine for the intended purpose (this is not designed for bulls eye shooting after all).

The M&P pistols have a very nice trigger for their intended purpose: combat. In that arena a pistol that goes bang many times reliably is much more important than a target shooter's trigger pull. M&P pistols do that very well also. Bill

I wonder how many folks read the initial review of one bad M&P and decided to become credible critics by knit picking features they did not fully understand and were not experienced enough to comment on. My M&P has one fault and one fault alone: a tinkerer for an owner. It shot really well until I put new sights on it. Once I put them centered it shot well again. I broke the trigger bar bending it to be more efficient. It shoots just fine with a new stock trigger. Shut up and shoot...it works for me.

Honestly, both my 40C and Shield have "good" triggers out of the box. The problem with the 40C is no identifiable reset. The problem with the Shield is it's a bit heavy even after a couple hundred rounds and even more hundreds of dry fires. Both of them are getting Apex kits to match my excellent FS. However, if I wasn't a "tinkerer" like another poster, and if I was new to shooting with these straight out of the box I'd have no problem with them.

My August 2013 9mm FS had an excellent trigger pretty much out of the box.

My Dec 2012 .40 FS has a noticeably heavier trigger and has more rounds through it.

The only issue I had with the stock trigger on my 9c was it was a little heavy for me. I am used to a 4ish lbs. trigger pull on 1911's. So I put most of the APEX duty/carry kit in the gun to smooth out and lighten up the trigger pull. I took out the APEX trigger spring as it made the trigger pull heavier. If I was not used to a lighter trigger pull, the stock trigger would not have driven me bonkers.

I'm completely satisfied with the stock triggers on our Shield 9 and Pro 40. Both were manufactured in 2013. We use them for self-defense and recreational shooting.

I like my carry weapons to be completely stock.

It makes it harder for the prosecuting attorney to build a case against me if i ever need to use it to defend my life.
