Apparently, science says it's true, and there is little the afflicted tyrants (AKA morning people, usually your boss) can do about it.

If You're Just Not a Morning Person, Science Says You May Never Be

It is a more scientific explanation than mine which runs like this:

"Early was invented by the enemy to break us, do not comply".

Steve, I never have been. I have had insomnia since childhood. I struggled to go to sleep when I was "supposed to" so I rarely got a full night's sleep. My mind is like an IMAX showing a kaleidoscope on a loop. It won't shut off at night. I envy Ruthie as she can flip a brain switch and be snoring in no time. Getting up was/is a process for me. I would be groggy and it took a while for me to turn the motor over.

Because of that, I could never and still can't eat upon arising. The thought of food that early turned me off. Smelling breakfast could not entice me. Boot camp was a sleepless, two meal a day adventure fer shore. I still can't eat or drink anything until at least two hours after rising (toast and coffee only).

I have to get up early now for home school so the first lesson of the day is "study hall".

Years ago, after much prescribed and non-prescribed experimentation I hit on the magic potion: Ambien and Trazadone. I now sleep the sleep of the Pirate Dred Roberts (mostly dead).

So, put me in the "will never be a morning person" camp.

I am not either. Sure I can do it ,have for many years but dislike getting up early ,even if I had 8 hours sleep. Plus if it is still dark out, it's wose Except going fishing.:D. I need some light. My Wife is the opposite, one of those happy morning people! Ahhhh!!

But then she can fall asleep standing up at 10pm.:D

Drugs like that and some sleep disorders can get your hard to get pistol permit revoked in my peoples republic. You have the wrong doctor or pharmacy it could get interesting.

I spent about 30 years in the "be to work by 7" brigade. Didn't like it but tolerated it, usually with a can of Coke in hand.
Now I get up whenever, times I enjoy being up at 5:30 or 6, other times don't even consider it till after 9. Coffee when I get up but no eating for a couple of hours.
Not working today, think a nap is calling.......

I like getting up early and diving into my day, whatever it brings my way I'm ready. I can also eat anything at anytime of the day. I could sit down and eat a Thanksgiving dinner first thing in the morning or eat bacon and eggs at 11 pm at night. It doesn't seem to matter to me.

Although I'm semi-retired I still get up at 4:30 am. As a little kid, my first chore of the day was start the percolator on the stove and wake up the rooster.

LVSteve, you're certainly in the right town for a night person! I, too, am a night person, and I've been that way as long as I can remember. When I was a little kid, all of my friends would conk out around 9pm. I'd still be going strong, encouraging them to keep playing, and the main response I got was, "Zzzz". From the 7th grade through my sophomore year of college, I got up around 6 am every weekday. I never adapted, and by Saturday, I was so exhausted, I'd sleep until noon. Fortunately, in my working career I had flexible hours, and I was usually able to enjoy my natural sleep pattern. Now, in retirement, I sleep the way I was biologically programmed to do, from 2 am to 10 am, and to quote James Brown, "I feel good!"

I can stay up for all night, as long as needed, but I have to get up at least an hour and a half early just so I can get started. I don't do coffee, so there's that!

I am the exact opposite. If I wake up past 0600 I feel like the day has passed me by. My wife, on the other hand, worked mids almost her entire working life and still won't turn in till around 0300.

My Dad worked in building Hoover Dam for about 18 years. He worked the mid shift until I was 6 y.o. coming home about 12:30am. My Mom would read to me and my sister until we fell asleep. But, I got so I was awake until Dad got home. I never put 2 and 2 together until I got to college and then I realized that my tendency to stay alert and awake until midnight was an unintended consequence from that part of my early life. I can rise early in the morn if required, but much prefer to sleep until 8 to 9 am. Now that I am retired I can do exactly that. It drives my 'early to bed, early to rise' wife crazy. ........ :-)

For many years I was a "true" morning person.

I fondly remember all those Summer days when I watched the first signs of clarity appearing from the East. And then, the Sun slowly appearing over the horizon, chasing away the night chill under it's potent glare with the promise of yet another glorious day.

And only then, I feeling fully satisfied but tired, finally went home to bed.:D

I'm 100% not a morning person. I think that was the reason I hated school so much.

I worked second and third shift most of the 32 years I worked. I did go to first shift when my son got into baseball, just so I'd never miss a game. As soon as he got bored with it, I went right back to 2nd shift. I was lucky during that time, because the printing press I worked on only ran one shift, and they didn't care what shift it ran as long as it ran 8 hours a day.

I usually go to bed between 3 and 5 AM, and get up around 10 or 11. Even then I never plan anything before 1pm. I like a couple hours to get up and running.

When I go to bed at night, I'll lay down and may think about rolling over, but I'll be asleep before I get the chance. I'm honestly talking seconds before I'm asleep.

I am up at 0 dark 30 every morning since 1960 or so. I have always taken naps though..Even at work where we were encouraged to take a nap. Now days though I get up for a while..maybe read a little and go back to bed till 0730. Still think I am wasting the day. When at work I'd get up at my normal time make coffee and most mornings one of the Paramedics(Angie) would come out to the day(night) room drink coffee and we'd watch the day come alive. Hardly even talk either...she was a good gal, a good paramedic....and a pretty morning person
