Went with a friend to a gun store this morning. He wanted a snub nose .357, but fortunately the GS owner talked him out of that and into a 442. Of course I just can't go into a gun store, even with no money in my pocket, and not look around.

This store is pretty large in terms of volume of sales, and that includes sales to local area PDs. In the used case he had a well worn 5906 trade in. Price was reasonable for MA considering the magazine restrictions for hand guns. Condition was typical, lots of holster wear. He also had a 3913, which I looked at, but it wasn't a NL or even LS, so I passed. Next up was a nice condition 908, but I thought it was a bit pricey and since I have a 3914, I wasn't interested. I thought I was done, but out of the corner of my eye I spotted it. A very nice looking 5904, marked at $400.00 with one magazine, no box. Maybe a bit high in most of the country, but again it's a high capacity firearm. "I don't need that, I have a 5906 already."

I walked away, walked back, and it was just staring me in the eye in all of it's square trigger guard glory.

My friend knew the owner of the story growing up decades ago when they were kids. My parents sort of knew the family, but I didn't know any of them. He gave my partner a good deal on the 442, so I just, out of curiosity you know, asked what he'd do on the 5904. I should have known better, so it was $370.00 out the door with an extra magazine. My friend completed the paperwork and I handed my license to the dealer and filled out the 4473. Then it was down to the bank to use the ATM.

On the way there my friend commented that a few years ago he'd have suggested professional help if he saw me do that. Now, he's a gun owner and after paying for the 442 (his second gun) he's starting to think about his next purchase.

No doubt he'll be asking me for tips on convincing his wife that all those guns she sees are actually mine.

Goodness help us next year when our wives get their licenses! ;)

It's not a problem if I don't admit it's a problem, right?

I live along that river in Egypt, too....(denial = the Nile :D)

I just cannot walk into a gun shop and just look. It's like a heroin addict going to a drug dealer just to look.

I have to stay out or I will buy something...and I don't need anything. Since when is "need" really the issue anyway? ;)

I feel your pain. Gun show here in Arkansas today about 30 minute drive from me. Have been fighting the urge to go all day. Because I know what is likely to happen when I get there.

i bought 6 or 7 guns one day "when i was just looking " from three diff. lgs.........dang!!! a deal is a deal, what can you do?

Ah the 5904... I too have absolutely no logical reason to need one, yet it is on my short list. As are both 5926 and 5946.

You are in good company here GaryS.:)

I am doing a Gunshow to-morrow morning and just know something is going to follow me home. The trick is to slip it past the wife before she see's it. Timing is crucial at these times as you all know. Maybe it can live in the trunk for a few days until she is not home? Thats what I usually do as I never tell her the real truth in numbers just how many I really do own. What she does not know will not hurt me at all.

Friend, you sure do live a dangerous life!

Sure I am. It's kind of like a 12 step program, only in reverse. Instead of helping me resist, you all just encourage me to buy more. :D

I really wasn't going to even touch anything unless he happened to have a 3953/54 in the case. That of course went out the window.

Need help

Everytime I get a new gun I am thinking about what will the next gun will be. I spend my spare time looking on line for the next great deal or the gun I can't live without. I don't need a new gun for anything but what does that matter. Is there a 10 step program for people like me? Maybe after 10 or so years I will seek help.

Problem, what problem? Last week, I was at my FFL's, freeing from Maryland's handgun quarantine the 4" 19-4 I got to keep my 6" 19-4 company. Gal behind the counter just looks me in the eye and said "you need another gun". Funny, thing, she was right, but she knew before I did. So I put down my money on a new AR.

I personally HATE it when the new and improved price comes in at, or below, the figure I'm thinking about!!!!!!!!

DANG...........bought another one.

I'm lucky I have a very understanding, loving, spouse!!!!!!:)

I'm considering driving to MA from WI to see that 3913... They're impossible to find around here.

So where is the problem..I don't see a problem. It's why I don't go to gun shows anymore and only to the gun store when I need a pick me up. But usually walk out more depressed. It's a terrible sickness.

Seems like when I am just looking
Oh **** what a deal I cant believe no one else seen this
or
Oh man I have not seen one of those in years
or
Oh yeah my buddie (fill in the blank) was looking for one I should just pick it up
or
Well I just sold that (fill in the blank) but that was 4 months and 4 new guns ago
or

Misery does love company, Gary. Thanks for sharing.

Me: beginning of 2012, no pistols owned, and in the attic, one 1920s vintage beat-up hand-me-down 12-ga. s x s, and a bolt-action single-shot .410 (my first shotgun from age 10).

April 2012: a random trip to the local range to shoot a 1911 .45 ACP for the first time since military service in the 1980s, just for "something to do."

April 2012: new owner of LEO turn-in M&P .45 4.25" barrel, since "I need to own a pistol."

June 2012: traded M&P .45, new owner of Shield .40, since "I only need to own one pistol."

June 2012: new owner of second M&P Shield 40 from the other waiting list I was on. Sold second M&P Shield 40 on the Forum, since "I only need to own one pistol, right? Right?"

July 2012: new owner of lightly-used M&P .40 4.25" barrel purchased from Forum, since "My Shield is for CC and I'm good at targets up to 10 yards, but I like to shoot targets to 25 yards." Oh, and "I really need a truck gun."

August 2012: new owner of minty 4006, since "Well, it's a classic 40-caliber and it's beautiful." Oh, and "This one is to start my collection."

September 2012: traded 12-ga. and minty 4006 and some cash for new AR-15 M4 style carbine, since "Well, I need a black rifle as well as two pistols instead of three."

November 2012: I really need a 4040PD because it's a classic 40-caliber and it's beautiful, and I sold my 4006 that I was going to start my collection with, and three pistols really wasn't too many, and ...."

Yes, my wife knows about (some of) these.

Yep, misery LOVES company.:)
