I'm on the sidelines for a while

You don't mention your age but that really sucks and stuff like that happens when you get older. There are many things I know I shouldn't be doing any more but still will occasionally risk it. When you do something wrong and hear the ominous "pop" you can only wonder how long you'll be laid up. Get it fixed, do what the doc's say and make sure you do all the rehab. If you do all that you'll shorten your recovery time. Look at the bright side. You may be off your feet for some time but you can catch up on gun cleaning and reloading so your ready when you get the doc's OK.

I had this hip joint replaced 18 years ago, so I'm almost double the expected life span of the joint. The other side is 3 years newer. Add that to my artificial shoulder and various pins and screws, I set off metal detectors every time I'm near an airport (I actually have a ID card for airport security :D) I am very familiar with rehab procedures, I just wish they could speed up the new joint fabrication process. Looks like the surgery will be in January so all I'm doing now is trying to minimize the damage until they can get in there and stir things up.. Thanks for all the well wishing. Even though I was slow (actually just got the results, 13th out of 22 shooters) it's still better than watching something stupid on TV (like the "Voice", sorry if this offends any fans). I'll have to slow down my shooting, figure I'll cut back to a couple of hundred a week until I get some "upgrades" installed.

Well, I'm scheduled for surgery on Jan 2nd. Then the rehab can start. I'm more than ready for it. :D (shuffling around with a walker or a wheelchair gets old real fast ) and much as I liked shooting my last match with my holster equipped wheelchair, I'd much rather use my regular holster (but I suspect I'll be using the wheelchair one for a bit).

Had surgery yesterday, replace ball, socket, and a bone graft. Total time 29 hours. These aren't my best pictures ,but they're the ones I have. :D I'm thinking that I was 2 counties deep into "La La" land in the first picture.

Sounds like it went without complications? Great!

The first pics appears as though you're either well medicated, or you're watching major network "news" on the TV. :p

How long until you're driving again?

I probably won't be visiting family in Shoreline until maybe March, but if you're a beer drinker, I wouldn't mind getting together at one of the breweries sometime. Diamond Knot, maybe, if you don't want to go far?

Get well quickly. Get some miles on those new parts. :)

Best.

Best wishes for a speedy rehab.

My wife is getting her first techno-joint on Tuesday morning, a new hip at the new Swedish Ortho hospital in Issaquah. It's our first experience with these things, and I get to stay home from work for 5 weeks for her rehab. I'll be the task driver on the PT regimen!

Mine will have to be a root beer, but I would feel honored to have one (or more) with you. :D I think the term medicated is an understatement

You know, I never really stopped to realize how many guys with whom I exchange postings now and again are located in the PNW, particularly around the greater Seattle and Olympic peninsula areas.

I once met a former forum member called Sparks, I think it was, for dinner in Seattle many years ago. Gentleman. I still use a large gift bottle of FP10 lubricant he sent me back then (and think of him whenever I refill my needle oiler bottles from it).

Bkreutz, I'm sure either Diamond Knot, or Rory's, or somewhere else you may like, serve root beer. ;)

Well here it is 2 weeks and 2 days post surgery. I went to the range for the first time today (before the Seahawk game;)) Still don't move around very fast, but good enough that I'm going to try a match next Tues Night. I'm going to take it slow, it's a 3 stage match and I'll stop before I get to the point where I have to be carried home:eek:. Getting out today was a lot more fun than lying around staring at the TV.

Well, since the last update, I've shot 3 indoor matches. The first one was on crutches (kinda slow, and I only made 2 out of 3 stages before I ran out of gas), the next one was with a cane (faster, and I shot all 3 stages), and last night was my first one without mechanical support. Didn't do too bad, finished 5th out of 12, still pretty slow (I walk like the Penguin on Batman). I'm restricting myself to indoor matches until after my Dr followup #2 at the end of the month. Don't think I could make an all day, rough terrain match at this point. Been an interesting experience.

I can feel your pain. On the fourth of July 2013 I had just finished watching fireworks at a local lake. I was waiting on my wife to finish in the porta potty when about a ten year old little girl came running down the hill and knocked me down and broke my hip. I'm 6'2" and 240#s, she probably made about 75-80#s. It takes a big man to admit being taken down by a 10 year old.

They did a total hip replacement and I went to work with my therapy. About 6 months later I still couldn't put any weight on it so they went in on January 2014 and did it again. I was on the walker and a cane for over a year. I still kind of walk like a duck, however I have found I can walk all day at a gunshow but only for a few minutes at a Walmart.

They must have put in some kind of specific new hip.

I've had 3 hip joints replaced(1 left, 2 rights) and never had that kind of recovery time. Right now I'm in week 5 since surgery and walking without a cane, but a limp. There has to be more to the story, that's not normal. I think if it was me, I'd be looking for a second opinion.
