I’m weak…. Put a 2 inch 10-9 on layaway… ETA - It’s home!

Made some bad choices today and stopped into an LGS where I’ve found some jems. Found a nickel 34-1 in late February. Today I wander in and he’s got a 2 inch model 10-9 round butt. It has a little holster wear around the muzzle and crane. The recoil shield, forcing cone, and muzzle looked basically unfired. The timing was “factory perfect”. It had a set of Hogues on it and came with a well warn holster.

I asked if he could remove the grips and everything was perfect. Zero corrosion and the screws looked unmolested. Doesn’t look like a screwdriver had ever touched them.

I didn’t “need” it so I just put it on layaway.

I know I've had the same phenomenon happen to me. I stop in "just to look" and well... All self control is out the window.

That said, when you said, "--------and the screws looked unmolested" alarm bells went off in my head. Now that's not because they should look molested, because they won't if the proper screwdriver is used (and used properly); but it seems like more than a few folks think removing the sideplate is a bad thing. It isn't----quite the opposite.

Here are a few words from a S&W catalog: "Occasional oiling is absolutely necessary to keep a revolver in fine working condition and prevent wear." They go on to say, "This is best accomplished by removing the sideplate on the right side of the arm." Then they tell you how to go about doing it.

If you're one of the folks who thinks cleaning and oiling the inside of a S&W revolver is accomplished by dumping the contents of a spray can into the action, and then pouring some oil in front of the hammer, you are SADLY mistaken----and your own worst enemy!!

On the one hand, I wish you well. On the other hand, I cry for you---and for your gun! I hope I never end up with one of them!

Never fear Ralph. Mine get treated properly. I was more concerned about “Bubba”….. It needs a good cleaning and it will receive a full tear down using proper tools when it gets home.

What's not to like about a 2" Model 10??? Mines a -5 and came with no extras. Regardless it is a good little shooter. Bob

Now I have to find a proper set of factory grips for it........ I've got a couple spare sets of Ahrends boot grips that it'll probably wear most of the time.

I adore RB, K-frame snubs. Still hoping to find one in a local shop. They work well with perhaps my favorite S&W grips; the RB target/banana stocks.

Bad choice? Quite the contrary, it was a GOOD choice that you stopped in to browse. If you hadn't it probably would not have lasted long in the case.

Yep, we've all been there done that just stopping in to the LGS. Congrats on a great find!

Funny, that's EXACTLY what I did last week with a Ruger Single Six, a 6906, and a 3" 686+. I guess I ought to be ashamed of myself....Actually, I was proud of myself because I generally put them away uncleaned after a range session, because, well, I am BUBBA!!!

Some folks clean guns fanatically. I am not one of them, I admit it, I apologize to the purists and fanatics who hate me.......

Speaking of 2" Model 10s....

It hasn't been out of the safe for a long time!

I was issued a Model 10-7 square butt snub, the only service gun I shot a perfect qual score with. I purchased it when we transitioned to the S&W stainless revolvers & still have it.

It is certainly one i am looking at. My LGS is over due for a visit. I am not opposed to getting one of the new mod 10’s lock be damned.

Nice snag there. Looking forward to pictures when you get it. My favorite pawn shop that I used to frequent went out of business/retired. One of my prizes was similar, a 64-2 2 inch bbl in very nice condition.

She’s home! Did a full tear down. Spotless under the side plate. Honestly after cleaning it up and taking the horrible rubber grips off it looks really good. It’s got holster wear on the crane, a little on the muzzle, and the ejector rod has some wear. It hardly looks fired at all!

Have some Ahrends boot grips on it for now. I’ve got a couple sets of Magnas that are a little rough. I’m going to see how they respond to Murphys and some lemon oil so I can see how they look on it.
