I just picked up a M625-9 Mountain Gun in 45 Colt. I tried my favorite 285 gr LBT cast WFN bullet and at 25 yds the impact is 4" high even with the rear sight screwed all the way down. I know the issue is the heavy bullet. I know the fix is to either have a taller front sight or a lower rear sight. The front is .290" tall. The math suggests I need one which is .310" to .320" tall. None to be found on Brownells site. Any suggestions? Maybe a 'smith who specializes in such fixes? Someone suggested I file down the rear sight but, again, the math suggests I file down enough that the rear sight notch would be literally halved.

Switch to a lighter bullet or a faster load?

Replacing the front sight would probably be the best way to make the adjustment but finding the correct front blade might be a hassle. Changing the rear blade might be easier. S&W offers 0.126", 0.146", 0.160", and 0.196" blades with and without white outlines. If you can accurately measure your current rear blade the next smaller size might work?

Between talking to S&W CS and taking measurements, they say I have 1) have a Lipsey's gun, 2) have the lowest (.126) rear sight already in place and the tallest (.296") front sight they make. He could only advise to speed up my 285 gr bullet or reduce bullet weight.

Sounds to be the easiest solution.

If I can find a RM46 Trijicon mount I'm going to try the Trijicon RMR Reflex optic with 12.9 moa green triangle reticle.
