I live on the south side of Atlanta. My girlfriend has relatives in Macon, ga, which is the first major city you find on I75 south from Atlanta ga. We were heading down to see her relatives last weekend and one of them is the master mechanic of the family and has a ford model a in his backyard among other hot rods and his house is basically a motorhead museum and we had a good time hanging out/meeting her extended family.

Now, there is no bass pro shop within 50 miles of my house. There's one on the northeastern end of atlanta and one in Macon. If I'm in macon, I'm not passing up this opportunity.

And i came home with an S&W M&P 15 sport model. I've always viewed the AR15 as a fad, and i was working on the ruger mini-14. Now i have both, but the mini-14 is still in pieces due to my impulse buy.

One gun I've always wanted is a 22lr revolver with a 6" barrel. Definitely blued with wood grips, and preferably with a 22wmr cylinder. After researching the name brands and models, i chose the heritage arms brand due to price mainly. The only practical use is snake shooting with rat shot, and other uses would be playing around in the woods. It turns out they're hard to find. I found one last christmas for $100 but it was badly beat up and i didn't want to fix it. I found another in good condition 4 months later but i didn't have the money for it. I found one in almost perfect condition for $200 the other day and bought it. This one msrp'ed at $225 so $200 was high, but i did it anyway because it took me 10 months to get one, and I'm impulsive.

So here's this past week's impulse buys

I was at the range shooting them earlier today. The 22 mags were freaking loud. I didn't expect that noise at all. I didn't like the factory stock on the ar15 at all, so i bought the magpul stock and matching front end. The new stock made it an inch or 2 longer and stopped all the vibration in the stock so the gun feels a lot more solid. The factory settings were just low from 25 meter zero so i was splitting flies at 25 meters in no time. The target was a shooting game with a bunch of flies on it and a scorecard in the upper corner. I couldn't hit any of the flies with the 22lr or 22mag, but you get what you pay for. I also think my pistol skills are slacking and in need of practice, so it might not be the gun. I had a lot of fun today, and I'm happy with my impulse buys, but disappointed that i still haven't put the final $75 into putting my mini 14 together.

I don't know if I'd call what I do "impulse" buying.I'd rather liken it to a kid in a candy store back in the old days where all the candy was a penny and you had a quarter from the tooth fairy.

My most recent acquisitions were a Ruger MKIII 22/45 22LR,Ruger SP101 22LR and a Henry Golden Boy 22MAG.

I already have a Heritage 22LR/22MAG,Henry 22LR,17-4 and a Keltec PMR-30 22MAG.

I've stopped trying to justify my purchases.

I made an impulse buy a month back. In Wallys world looking for some .22lr and ended up putting a Bushmaster AR on layaway. For $499 I couldn't resist. I already own a Delton and Colt 6920.

I was expecting to take a "beating" @ my local lgs but they gave me a good price for it, also bought the takedown from them so that might have had something to do with the great offer. I couldn't resist but honestly I would've taken a "beating" cause I was ready to get rid of the takedown; to many problems with those BX25 mags (rifle worked great). Absolutely love this M&P 15-22! Fired it with the iron sights & just put the scope I had on the takedown. Can't wait to get my Nikon P-Rimfire 2x7x32 150BDC scope dialed in for this rifle!ImageUploadedByTapatalk1413173950.125731.jpg

Impulse buying is probably 90% of my gun purchases.
Just taking advantage of good opportunities/deals when
they come along.
Oh, my advise on the Ruger Mini is to "forget about it".
Your Heritage will be more accurate than that thing if
your experiences with them are the same as most people.
Junk....
AR a Fad? I've been shooting AR's 30 years and was buying
them when you basically one option if you wanted one, a " Colt ".
Great guns for varmints up to 100 pounds or so and with the
right bullet fully capable of 2 legged predators.
Ask "Charlie".

Yeah my first impulse gun buy was the henry 22lr. I like the golden boys but not enough to actually spend that price on one

While the ar15 is a good rifle, I'm talking more on today's interest in them, and "assault rifles." I can't tell you how many times I've heard "dude you need an ar15" when i was looking into the saiga ak47. Or on another group i see 10 pictures of rifles people built each day. Several are target shooters, others are battle rifles, and there's always a host of "experts" critiquing the rifles.

If you remove all that other stuff, then yeah it's a semi auto rifle that you can attach a bunch of stuff to.

I like the mini 14, and i bought one with a busted stock. The rest of the gun is fine and stainless steel. I took it all apart and cleaned it. I haven't actually shot it though. I picked out the hogue stock and planned what I'm doing to it. According to the internet, the accuracy problems come from a vibrating barrel. I found an upgrade part that says it significantly reduces barrel vibration. I was going to see how bad the accuracy is before buying that part. A friend of mine says it's simply a 100 yard gun. He gets 2" groups at 100 yards and doesn't bother shooting farther. So i have a hope and plan with the mini 14.

You know how guys choose their ideas and go with it.

And impulse is 90% of my life. One day, i thought it would be a good idea to join the army. 11 days later i was at fort jackson sc. One day, i wanted a car and had all the ideas on what kind i wanted and the features i needed. 2 days later i had a full size nissan titan. I decided i hated my job on monday, saw a help wanted sign on tuesday, called in sick and went to a job interview Wednesday, quit on thursday, started the new job friday. I'm just an impulse person.

NEWS FLASH

ALL guns are loud without adequate hearing protection & a 22 mag is louder than a long rifle, but still not as bad as about any centerfire rifle/pistol IMO. Impulse buying, I'm sure most of us are guilty of it, and can't think of a better way to pay more than you have to.I always seem to find a better gun at a better price after doing it. I also would not consider BPS, or any large chain store to be some kind of Mecca. I rarely see many, if at all, vintage good quality older used guns there, plus you are paying full retail + tax, & a federal purchase form. They are great places to find major brands bottom of the line discount models for a low price that will rarely increase in value. Spend a bit more now, buy quality, use it with decent care/maintenance for 20-30 years and sell it for what you paid or more, and you got to use a gun for free all that time.

I can't blame you for an impulse buy as that's mainly what I do. I usually can't find the certain models I'm looking for anyhow so keep myself open for what I come across. I've done good and I've done poorly following this practice but on the guns I later wish I hadn't bought I've managed to sell or trade usually at a better price than I paid for them.
The only problem I see with your buying an AR is it's often difficult to not buy others once the bug has bitten you. I started with just one and now my safe seems full of them. Since you seem to like 22s don't forget they have conversion kits for them and uppers in 22lr too. I built one with a dedicated 22lr upper and now is the most frequently shot AR I have.
