Nice rifle Ron. I always liked the 541 / 581 series but never understood why Remington didn't put a tang on the rear of that action. Thosy would look even better if there was something to fill in that big groove they rout thru the stock .

Sceva, I couldn't agree more. I'm thinking of drilling some holes back there to store spare ammo.

All these repeaters, how about a single shot?

Here is my Mountie, and my Buckmark. I need to do a number on the Mounty's furniture, it needs refinishing.

Here's a few of the more oddball ones.

First: a Ross straight pull 22 single shot training rifle. The next shot shows the stampings on the stock indicating the units to which it was issued. Apparently it had a long service life. I think Ross also made a civilian version; if anyone has one, I'd sure like to see it.

Next: a Krag with a 22 short barrel by Stevens-Pope. The next picture shows the offset barrel: it uses the standard Krag extractor. I've heard that there was a 22 adaptor for the trapdoor rifle; a steel cartridge case bored and rifled for a 22 short. I've never seen one: anyone got any info on this?

Next an Izmash Biathlon 22 straight pull rifle. It's not really a biathlon rifle, but I think Izmash produces a biathlon rifle using this action. It has a great trigger pull and is a real tack driver.

A couple more strange ones.

The first is a Berthier 07/15, originally in 8mm Lebel. In the 1930s, the chamber was reamed out for Balle N, and the barrel, receiver and sight stamped N. Then it was sleeved to 22 long rifle, and the bolt received a new bolt head.

Last is the receiver of my Springfield M2 22. It's stamped M1922M1. I bought it from a Navy surplus sale for (eat your heart out) $25. It has all the M2 parts. I think the Navy bought the parts, converted the rifles and didn't bother to stamp them: their main interest is rifles with about 16 inches bores.

You can never have too many 22s. I enjoy all of mine from my first Marlin 56 to the new S&w MP 15-22. So many in between. Most of mine are Marlin but there is a Rem 121, a Browning BLR and a few others thrown in.

Regards,
