In Search For The Perfect Grip For J Frame RB

Any Suggestions for Sq Butt

I recently acquired a Model 37 square butt and replaced the stock grips with a set of Pachmyer grips because they were all I could find locally. They are longer than the metal grip frame and I would like to find something that would fill in behind the trigger guard and be standard length. I have been checking on the internet and it looks like there are not a lot of grips for the square butts.
Thanks for any suggestions

Herrett's conversion...

Gary, maybe these have been mentioned, this thread is too long for me to wade thru tonight, but I have a pair of round to square conversion grips by Herrett's, smooth, with lots of wood beneath the heel of the butt, so plenty to grab on to. In some ways they remind me of Bisley grips on a Colt SAA, they have the vertical look for the majority of the grip. They do a good job of filling your hand, and taming recoil, not sure how good they would be for stealthy concealment. Not offering to let them go, just information... :)

Is this the old Uncle Mike's with the covered backstrap?

RR

No, but very, very similar. I think the only difference might be the texture of checkering. Fishscale versus diamond. Shape and material feel appeared the same on the one I handled in a shop.

Thought I'd bring this old thread about J Frame Grips back from the Dead!!
Also the newer style J Frame S&W Grips with the covered backstrap & boot grips with the S&W Logo have had issues working with speedloaders
I can't tell you why they weren't tested first as the Uncle Mikes/Craig Spegels were..

Lots of really nice grips on here! Wow! I like Eagle Boot Grips, but my favorites are my Nill grips shown in picture below;

Those are some sweet looking grips BigGuns..
Are those Nills on the J frames??
They appear to be a Burl of some type..

My carry piece

Model 60 with a bobbed hammer.

I traded a new 642 to an LE officer I know for it. Took it off his ankle and unloaded it, took the 642 loaded and strapped it on.

I got the bobbed hammer from my gunsmith friend and been carrying it in an Uncle Mike's pocket holster for years.

Not exactly real comfortable to shoot +Ps for practice, but 15 or so every month does the trick I think.

I like the Pacmayr "Compac" style grip because they feel natural in my hand. I have them on the M60, M642 and (cough!) Colt Detective Special in this picture...

I like the Hogue Bantam grips on my 642-1. I would put a set on my Model 60 no dash but just can't. Going to get a Tyler T-Grips and see if that works with the factory wood grips.

checkered Spegels

Gary, I have never tried anything but smooth Spegels. Do the checkered ones tend to chew up your hand with extended firing?

ps- I am down to one Centennial and one Bodyguard, the ranks of the snubs are thinning.

No they give a bit better grip & the Airweight seems better with the checkered & doesn't seem to move around in the hand as much..

Smith now lists the full combat style J Frame grip on thier Rubber Grip page on the Web Site..
Here's the link to them..
Product: J Synthetic Full Size Grip with S&W Logo

I can't get these grips to pull up. Does anyone have a picture of them? I'm looking for some boot style grips with a covered backstrap. Does anyone make these? I like the Uncle Mikes that come on the Jframe but I'd like a covered backstrap to conceal some blemishes.
