In search of a chair

We have a Lazy-Boy that looks exactly like the one in your pic. It has been great. My mom came for a visit and told us how they hated recliners and would never get one. After spending a week or so in the Lazy-Boy, she and my step dad went home and ordered two.

When we bought our Lazy Boy Chair they came with a guarantee, and a toll free number where you could order replacement parts. But I can't find the number now.

My wife wanted a new chair about a year ago. We looked locally, nothing we really liked. Bought one, a leather Lazy Boy, on line, ez pay, $825. They came, set it up, comfort and enjoyment.

Take a look at Ekornes Stressless recliners, but you might want to be sitting in one when you see how much they cost. There are lots of styles and all are different in subtle ways. If you go that route, try out as many as you can. You might just find one that's perfect.

aka "hamster time." When I have a bunch of thinking to do, I hit the couch for a bit and imagine that while I'm cogitating, there are hamsters on tiny wheels in my head, working away at the problem while I relax. You'd be surprised how clever those critters can be...

I suspect I may be alone in this concept.

We went to the La-Z-Boy store yesterday. Yeah, those are some amazing chairs. Very comfortable and I like how the mechanism works. They aren't cheap though. Meh, I suspect any quality product will cost a bunch. You get what you pay for.

I bought a brown leather Big Man's recliner from Laz-Y-Boy a few years ago...it actually wasn't very comfortable for me. It was very roomy, and quite large, but the head piece (the part of the back right behind the head) was so overstuffed it pushed my head in a downward position. I ended up selling it. All the other recliners we've bought have been Laz-Y-Boys, and they have been great. We've had both fabric and leather, and prefer leather. We even bought a leather sofa and love seat with incliners in them.

there are some who will come to your home and fix the chair.

Careful if you your own repair. La-Z Boy and Castro's use springs that would make a decent bear trap.

So, I've finally figured out what's wrong with my chair. A couple of the holes are about 1/4" larger (not exaggerating) than they were when new. There are rivets through these holes, not bolts. To repair it would require replacing the entire metal bar and rivet. It would be easier to replace the entire mechanism.

I found a few places that sell the mechanisms for several manufacturers, but not mine. Even if I did find it, the prices I've seen are high enough that it just makes sense to replace the chair.

Yep, not gonna repair it. I'm gonna save up a few pennies and get me a new one. Not sure which yet, but I've got my eye on these:

• La-Z-Boy Eldorado
• La-Z-Boy James
• England (a La-Z-Boy company) Lourdes - not a recliner

el Dorado is a nice looking chair but I could see myself wiping those arms clear of the remote, my phone, coffee, book and whatever else I had stacked there after I fell asleep with my feet up.

Dude- I found yer chair at an estate sale today. I don't think it's a rocker, but it "rocks". Apparently the late owner won it. (No details given.) Oodles of character and patriotism in spades.

It started after about 5 years, I expected more. The cover became loose in the kidney area, and it lost it's support.

Like I said in my first post our two LB chairs are about 15 YO.

Now full disclosure, I'm 5'11, a rather petite 245 pounds. Many times a 20+ pound Coon cat is with me. As of now both chairs are doing fine. Mostly I sit in the left one and the Mrs uses the right one. All insulating/stuffing is in place and doing well.

She does wipe them done regularly with a Armour All product and they also look very well. We do have a couple claw scratches but thank to the Armour All hard to see and just surface cuts. Cats are not clawing just running and jumping up to the seat & skidding a bit then looking proud and then going to sleep."CATS"
