Indoor Range - what do you bring for just plain fun?

Hello Forum;

The indoor range I belong to is real nice for "senior citizens" (read old...slow...wheel gun guys like me). Annual membership buys me unlimited range time (open to close), reservation of lane choice (Monday - Fri) and some other perks.

When I just want to have simple, plain fun shooting, not for accuracy, not for speed, not mag dump, not wanting "wrist twist" (leave the Model 19 and 28 at home), but wanting a little more bang..........I bring the 38 wheel guns, but only the 4 inchers and the long Tom.

So......Model 10-5 4 inch, Model 15-3 also 4 inch, Model 14-3, 8-3/8", 5 or 6 boxes of PMC Bronze 132 grain FMJ's and just take my time, usually FBI silhouette's, maybe a group to center mass, another to shoulder or elsewhere in torso. I get a lot of fun for my time. Usually no "plastic blasters" anywhere around doing mag dumps and that sort of stuff...so like I said, plain, simple FUN.

Ever notice how a Model 10 with pencil barrel feels sweet yet different after a couple cylinders in the 15 Combat Masterpiece? Ever feel the increase in time on target and better grouping with the bucoo longer tube?

What guns and ammo do you take for plain fun with no pressure at your range? Pictures are mandatory for replies!!!:D

Update and correction;

OK..........so I lied! Actually I forgot that I always have my EDC Model 637 on my belt, and yes....towards the end of the fun session, the range is usually empty in all lanes except mine so lights are dimmed if on at all. I'll kill the lights on my target, pull out the 637 and touch off a cylinder or two of +P...just to watch that fireball fan out.

At least it wakes up the RSO who knows me and has been checking his eyelids for holes for the last couple hours.:D

My correction has to do with 4th para where I meant to say, ever notice the DEcrease in time back on target with the longer tube. Evidently brain sprain or something.

I carry a Ruger LC9 so any range time I try to shoot a few magazines through it.
For fun either a K22 or Model 18 and then a center fire revolver.
Model 64 3 inch, a K38 , a 681 or a 586 6 inch depending on range, indoor or outdoor.
I especially like the looks of younger shooters with their wonder 9s and such when I shoot a steel gun.
Several have stop to ask questions and seem genuinely interested.
I shoot a 8 inch orange peel target then replace the center with a 5 inch. I don't shoot very long distance mostly 10 yards.
Many of the people with the 9s will use a silhouette target that's ends up looking like it was shot with a shotgun, pray and spray mentality.

I bring my 617 and shoot a few hundred rounds of .22. Sometimes I bring my 4 inch heavy barrel .38 Model 10 and 50 rounds of ammo.

Most times I'm shooting my Ruger Mark IV for fun.

All I have been shooting and carrying are my J-Frames. My 36 and 442 are the last Two that I have shot.

I bought a CZ P07 then a couple of weeks later a Kadet conversion to .22 kit. Range timeusually consists of 50 rds using 9mm then 75 to 100 just drilling various targets with the .22 kit. Nice to use the same gun for both types of ammo

Sticking to handguns only, every time I go to the range I take guns just for fun. I might be wringing out my carry guns, like a 6906, CS-9, or a snubby wheelgun but the whole exercise is always just for fun. One can argue that it's only fun if you're not shooting your fighting guns but I consider most of them fighting guns. I suppose if I brought my single action revolvers that is solely for fun. I just shoot the same way at the range all the time, bullseye accuracy, or scoring on an official carry target, or point shooting accuracy. I run the same drills for all my guns. For me that's total fun. There is no pressure on me, even if I am just banging away with carry guns it's fun. It's extremely relaxing, too.

But when I take a combat course of any kind I don't feel pressure, either. It's just fun to learn and practice what you might need for real.

Then, again, I thought Basic Training was fun, too, so what do I know?

I love my little Beretta 87 for range fun. :)

22LR is cheap, and a 12" reactive target at 25 yards can be hit a good many times holding 2-handed.

Where I am there are no indoor ranges and only one outdoor..AZ in the national forest. $50 annual family unlimited access (24 hours, bring a generator for night practices)

But the outdoor has lots of members and competitions are several times a week..

thurs. 9 am IDPA

saturdays 9 am 3 gun cowboy..

So I bring a big bag of guns, and a lot of ammo...:D

My "Just for fun" guns are my S&W Victory model in .38 S&W and my Astra Constable in .32 Auto.

Ammo is a 148 gn SWC over 2.4 gn Mulwex AP50 N in the .38 and in the absense of Federal factory ammo (the pistol does not like harder primers and misfires with all other factory ammo) 1.8 - 2 gns of the same powder under a 70 gn LRN.

I've started bringing a 22 along.

Usually my M18-4.

It's nice to see small groups on the target for a change. :-)

I just got a M650 and will probably bring that often.

It sounds like a big gun, and shoots fire like a big gun, but no recoil.

22 WMR is fun.

Always my 1948 vintage K-22 and whatever 32 or 38 I happen to have ammo loaded for (and can grab quickly out of the safe.) Of course whatever is in the CCW rotation that day if I have some fun ammo available for it should also get a little trigger time.

Froggie

With the exception of a couple of magnum rifles, every firearm I own is fun to shoot at the range.

While there are quite a few indoor ranges in my area, I am more of an outdoors kind of guy and prefer a little fresh air and sunshine when I shoot so I stick to the outdoor range.

For fun, I like "big" .380's. Well, big for .380's. Double stack magazines, good sights, and 3" + barrels. The cartridge is just a lot of fun and cheap to reload.

A 13 round Chiappa (Girsan) MC-14 and a 15 rounds Taurus PT 638.
