Just saw a S&W 1911SC, nice lookin with the scadmium receiver. It's used but is not the "billboard " model.. supposedly built in 1998... but I haven't found that model anywhere before 2004... anybody have any info or history they can share.

I've been looking for info myself. got one at local shop....billboard slide.....serial number starts with JER.....2 mags and box for 750.00....looks identical to this.. Genitron.com: Details for Smith & Wesson SW1911PD (Sc) .45 Automatic Pistol ..Gun is in great condition...looks like I'm gonna get my first 1911.....LOL

S&W didn't introduce their 1911 untill 2004. Is it possible a dealer sample or prototype made it out before then? It is possible, just not very likely.
I'm not really a 1911 guy, but I do carry a Mod 4040PD which also has a scandium frame and it has proven to be a light and reliable pistol. Also, the original 1911SC model was just annodized aluminum in color where the current version (the 1911PD) is annodized to a very dark blue color. Otherwise, the 1911SC should prove to be a nice pistol which will serve you well for a long time.

I believe the original 1911Sc was blue-both frame and slide. I have a "Billboard" blued and a later SS/Aluminum anodized (non-billboard) models.
Actually prefer the Billboard model looks.

I assume by your sig that the gun is in Mass?
I believe when the 1911PD came out, it was not yet Mass compliant. Therefore, the 1911Sc small billboard was sold in Mass until the PD became compliant. (Any change of SKU/model number requires a re-test even if it's the same gun!

John.... thanks so much for a great gun. Guys, it turns out this belonged to one of our members who happened to see this thread, not knowing it was his gun I was drooling on and responded. Met him tonite at the gun store and after torchering everyone for a week, bought the gun. I have to say, I was leaning toward either a new 1911es, 1911 Gunsite, 1911PD.... after handling these guns for weeks now and going back and forth trying to choose which one.... this built in 2005 gun was the one for me... it's mint, absolutely as nice as the brandy new ones I looked at. Now I can't wait to pick it up and get to the range. Something tells me I'm gonna be smiling as much then as I am while typing this.
We did figure out the production date as 2005, it is blued top and black bottom, serial # JRF2XXX. Junker, if you got your sites on a nice one for 750, get it, can't go wrong.. I'll try to get some pics of mine... maybe John has some he can share...
Shop is holding it for me until an ordered item comes in so I can pick up both at the same time. Should be able to pick up tomorrow. I was a little dislexic on the serial number...it starts with JRE. Didn't have the whole number, so S&W couldn't get me born on date. Great looking and feeling gun...can't wait.....

Great, pics would be nice. It should be a 2004 gun. Another kewl point, the early 1911's were pretty much hand built by their gunsmiths, I think a better product than the assemblyline guns..

Got ma gun yesterday!!!! Ya baby, she's a beauty. Now get that roof on John.. I'll be at S&W range monday nite, shooting at least 50 rds through her... I can't wait.
