I have purchased a 40 cal S&W Model 4006 SN VCK7401 from the Cal Highway Police. Any idea how old the gun is and how it was shipped? What type of box and assessories?

4006

Cant tell you an exact age, but I can tell you the transition to the 4006 began in 1991. The 4006 was replaced in 2007 by the 4006TSW, so that should give you a ball park idea of the age of your pistol, I'm sure someone on the forum will be along shortly to give you an exact number. When issued our pistols at the academy, we received no box, but the ones I saw were plain white cardboard. 3 magazines, and some aftermarket cleaning supplies. Oh and we are the California Highway Patrol, not the Highway Police.

Nice. The CHP 4006 is on my list of 3rd Gens I intend to own.

My 4006

You will really enjoy the 4006... had mine since 1996... accurate and a workhorse -

Got my CHP 4006 trade in back in November. Great gun and after buffing out holster shine using 3M pads it looks like new. Seller had already put new Hogue grips on it. My S&W reference puts your year of manufacture as 1994. Mine was made in 1989.
