Gentlemen

Figured this is the best place to ask, given the
broad range of knowledge and expertise that resides here.

I acquired a vintage 1960 Browning shotgun, I have some detailed
questions about it.

Looking for an internet source where the Browning
expertise resides.

Thank you in advance
Leonard

Thanks for the reply URIT

But their site is not really set up for information
share between members.

You can also go to shotgunworld.com and then the "I love my..." section and then on the Browning part of that section. Lots of good info there too. I used it to find out info about my grandfather's A5 birthdate and other info. Good luck!

As per Pete's request, referencing the knowledge here.

One question pertaining to the specific firearm,
it being a Browning Double Auto 'Twelvette".

It appears to meet the judgment requirement
of "Factory Installed" Poly-Choke, and recoil pad.
Not aftermarket.

Would like to know, if the Browning historical letters
include configure modifications done at the factory.

Browning currently does not have an employed historian,
so, my answer would have to come from people that
have obtained letters in the past.

The Shotgun forum, says it's possible. Look for choke markings on the barrel. If there are choke markings it's an after market. If not, who knows. The barrel will say Full, Modified, ETC.

Choke markings on Browning bbls are astereks& dashes and combinations thereof. Don't think Browning ever sold/shipped a Double Auto w/ muzzel device...but not an expert.

The Browning barrel stamp choke code is indeed asterisks and dashes. If you see them, a variable choke device would likely have been a later non-factory addition. Back when I was young and stupid I had a Vari-choke attached to the barrel of a very nice 12 gauge Belgian Browning A-5. It originally had a full choke barrel but I wanted to use it for skeet. I sent the barrel to Herter’s for the installation. It worked OK, but it did not make a good gun for Skeet. I did not keep it long.
