I am planning to install an Trijicon RMR sight on my 627 (using the MS23 mount and RM43 adapter plate) . I have never removed a rear sight before, but understand the relieving of the stress by loosening the rear screw and then loosening the front screw and sliding the assembly back and off. My question is: is there a way to record the height setting before removing the sight so that if/when I remove the RMR and reinstall the adjustable sight I can replicate the height setting or at least come close, so that a minimal amount of sighting in that would have to be done?

Well, heres the way I do it.

From where your elevation screw is right now, just count the number of turns (or half turns or even quarter turns) of the elevation screw that it takes to turn it completely 'till it is bottomed out.

Then go ahead with your procedure to remove the rear sight (this also entails turning the elevation screw to the "up" position of course).

Then whenever your're ready to go back on with the rear sight, after it's in place with the elevation screw and the front screw in place, just turn your elevation screw all the way down, then, remembering how many turns of the elevation screw from where it was bottomed out, just turn the screw that many turns raising the rear sight, and you're there.
