Interesting questin: How many rounds?

My carry technique might not fulfill your needs. We could probably argue caliber, platform and tactics till the cows come home. But in the end, what satisfies your requirements for personal defense is your choice. You have to be satisfied, no one can pick it for you.

For a while there, it seemed that this was the final word in this discussion.

At least it should have been.

Everything to do with guns is a compromise. I could solve the capacity "problem" by carrying my Ruger sr40c with the longer magazine, and have 15+1 without reloading. And it is not really any harder to carry than a j-frame. But the j-frame with 5 is totally reliable, and I am not sure the Ruger semi is as absolutely sure to fire as a revolver. The 40S&W cartridge is probably better than 38+p, but enough better to make a difference? Not sure. Maybe this is why so many rotate various guns as their carry guns, making almost random choices as a way to balance the various advantages and disadvantages of the different guns.

The challenge with discussions like this is they cannot be "closed" conclusivelly because so few people (LEO's excluded)who ccw are ever actually involved in a self-defense scenario (thank God). The results is people "speculating as to what is enough rounds". Even YOU said "I could solve the capacity "problem" by carrying my Ruger sr40c with the longer magazine, and have 15+1 without reloading." Yet how do you know that if you found yourself in a jam that 16 rounds would be enough to escape with your life? That wouldn't be unprecidented.
So....the most we can do is to ask what has been sufficient for past encounters of others? And the result is 5 rounds...or less. Some want to carry enough rounds of the proper caliber in case a bear starts chasing them down the street. Be my guest.
