iPod in the house

Just Google "iPod docks". The inexpensive ones my kids have sound pretty tinny, but we also have two Altec Lansing iMT810 Digital Boomboxes and they crank out some impressive sound. ~$170 from Amazon.com.

The newer home entertainment systems have docks built in. Your surround sound system for your TV likely can be hooked to your ipod as well.

Here is what you need, buy it and you can hook up the iPod with your stereo system which I do, I also have a boom box from the 70's which I hook my iPod up with. Cheap way to hear quality sound. All the dock's with speakers are expensive and quality is below par.

3-Ft. 1/8 Stereo to Dual Phono (RCA) Plug Y-Cable : Y-Cables | RadioShack.com

PS 3 ft. works for me, you may ask them if they have a longer one if that is what you need. Guarantee once you use it you definitely will all the time.

I have been reseraching this also for an iPad, and I think this is what I want: Miccus BluBridge home: Long Range Bluetooth Wireless Music Transmitter or Receiver

Amazon.com: Miccus BluBridge home: Long Range Bluetooth Wireless Music Transmitter or Receiver: Electronics

$50 and no wires. I think one needs to adjust the volumes on the two bridged devices to get optimum sound quality, but I like the convenience of playing music through my early 1990s system without wires.

Here is a simpler solution: Wirelss (bluetooth) mini boom box. It is what I am using now and for portability it can't be beat. Sound is not as good as a full up audio system, but it is darn good for the $80 price. I use with iPad and my brother with iPhone. http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Boom...ZOYM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1337667109&sr=8-1

I assume iPods have Bluetooth capability, but I don't know for sure... Better check.

For an iPad at home you can use Apple AirPlay or Apple TV with your home network.

For those who haven't taken a look at Apple TV you might want to check it out. It's the best $99 gadget I have bought in the past 20 years (does not require an apple computer).

My media library went from hundreds of music CDs and movie DVDs that were a hassle to find stacked on shelves.... to this. :)

I recently bought a 160gb Ipod Classic to use to get my collection of music to my stereo. My Harman Kardan receiver came with a cable to attach to an Ipod or laptop. I chose the Ipod because I can use it in my car also. It has worked out real well. The Ipod's high capacity lets me put an amazing amount of music on it. The batteries have a several hour lifespan before needing to be recharged.

Don't get the one with the apple on it!

Get the cable recommended by Labworm and also a 3.5mm male to 3.5mm male stereo audio cable. Many portable audio devices and car stereos have a 3.5mm auxillary input jack. If you're unsure what you need exactly, these two cables should allow you to connect to many devices and they are not expensive! Dont buy the cheapest you can find. A cable that costs $3 may fail prematurely or have poor sound quality, spend the extra FEW dollars. Do not buy any cables that are supposedly "proprietary". You will be getting ripped off;) I'm not even sure there is an Apple cable offered for this...

You can save 7 or $8 by determining exactly which one you need. I use both regularly. Hope this helps

This is how I do it. Plugs right in to the stereo (if you remember those) and sounds a lot better than any dock.
