Is anyone buying/using full size full weight semi-auto handguns

I am likely buying myself a birthday present in November, a RIA 52009. 5" full sized all steel double stack 10mm 1911A2. No idea how many pounds with a loaded mag. More than my 5906, that's for sure.

I carry only metal framed hammer fired guns. And this one still gets carried on my part time job.

With a gunbelt and quality holster, the weight of the gun is not an issue, for me. Regards 18DAI

I was just looking the other day to see who even still makes and sells and all metal or better all steel full size semi-auto .. forget what I found exactly, but it was rather limited.

You mean like this? It's not full weight, though. It has an alloy frame. I've never had a 17 shooter before. Man. It's awesome.:D
I can see some definite uses for this gun. Like when I'm out camping, alone. Or when I drive down into the city. It would be a good car gun. Cross-draw Mexican carry would work for short periods of time.

I'm not inherently opposed to plastic . If you want 10mm on purpose, Glock is the best platform for it .

That said , I both like metal guns , and carry full sized - ish . Good holster, good belt, dress around the gun . Civillian P225 , because it has best DA of any bottomfeeder I own . P90 has alloy frame, but is similar size and weight of a Combat Commander . And in turn , recently been having a hankering to finally reconfigure ( drop in & reverseably ) my actual Combat Commander , and put it into rotation . ( It's been in limbo because it is VG condition 1970's gun in Coltgaurd , but the stock grip safety lets the hammer bite my hand , and I am very much a Long/ Flat kind of guy, and the oem configuration is Short/ Arched .)

********

Different holster styles have their places , and both styles of belt slide have their advantages and disadvantages . Within that context , an M92 would be as equally suitable or unsuitable as any other full size pistol .

A couple of 1911s, three Walthers 2 (PPK, 1 PPK/s) and a H&K P7. But I don't carry them routinely, I'm a fan of plastic autos.

I have a bunch of steel 1911s but not a fan of toting them, same for my 1006. Also several full size plastic guns but dont carry those much either.

I've been a "revolver guy" ever since I started carrying. I carry a 640 Pro Series. Last Sunday I shot my friends 9mm Tarus millinium. Even though we had trouble with it, I had a ball shooting 9mm! After doing some research, this morning I bought a CZ 75B stainless. I haven't shot it yet but it could replace the 640 sometimes.

I've been carrying my M&P 9 for over 10 years with no problems. It also serves as my nightstand gun. Before that my 5906 was my carry gun. You just have to learn how to dress around the gun when you carry. I rarely have to carry more than 4 or 5 hours at the time so the weight isn't a factor.

If you liked the Taurus, you will love the CZ!

Certainly

I have a "We the People" fanny pack that carries a full sized, Ruger P89. I love the gun and shoot it very well. It is my most carried firearm because of the fannypack. It conceals very well. There is also room for my keys and stuff. I'm thinking of getting a second "WTP" fanny pack for my S&W 64.

I was carrying a Colt Cobra (original type). I have many holsters for it. Sometimes an M38 in a pocket holster.

Nowadays its a 3914 DAO carried IWB. It's easy to carry, easy to shoot, no worries with it. I like better than my M&P9c

Just picked up a Sig P226 Legion today in 9mm SAO. I've shot my son's extensively and after 100 rounds thru mine today, I'm in love. Smooth as silk.

That is my bedside gun at present.

The last couple of days I've been shooting the CZ 75 and you was right, I just love this gun!!! So far I've ran 200 rounds thru it and had zero issues with it. The test target said it shot high and to the right. My experiences showed it was way right(4 inches). A little sight adjustment and it is "dead-on".This gun is a pleasure to shoot. Next week I'm going to order a Tucker holster for it and will more than likely put it in the rotation with a little more range time of course. I can see more of these in my future!!!!

A M645 was my last duty pistol before stepping away for medical reasons. In uniform with a proper belt, I don't see the size / weight of a full size steel pistol to be a problem at all. I still have it and if I was healthy enough for duty, I'd strap it on tomorrow, fully confidant.
In concealment, size and weight become factors... also because you can't practically wear a solid gun belt.

I recently bought a Springfield Armory 10mm 5.25" XD-M.
It may have a polymer frame but with 16 rounds aboard it's not a lightweight. It makes my 1911 feel like a compact weapon.
It shoots well and unlike my last two new S&Ws' it didn't have to go in for repairs immediately.

Only metal & wood guns here - I'm a traditionalist, and a large sign in my shop says, "NO UGLY GUNS".

Understood. 1911s' are my favorite and pre lock S&Ws' are sweet, especially the N frame.
Glocks... Ugh.
I think you would like shooting the XD-M I mentioned in the above post. Just pretend it's a frisky, well built ugly girl and don't look too close.
