Is now the time to stock up on ammo?

When did "clinton" remove the weather proofing?

I too read this and was wondering exactly what change and when was it done?

I will admit that I do not see any lacquer sealer on the primers on a lot of ammo, but some has it. My NATO ammo does not have a visible sealer. I can't remember what was up when using Navy ammo at my former job. All I know was, we shot a lot of ammo, and it was wet all the time. But this is 20 years ago now.....

I woke up breathing!! Perfect excuse to stock up on ammo. I am around 15,000 rounds of .22 and need to have 5,000 more "expendable" rounds on hand. Not joking. I do need to get some 7.62x39 as I'm horribly low on that. 5.56 is OK, but could use some there also. I figure around $3.5K and I would feel like I could sit back and not worry about my ammo supply. Think what you will, but if I can shoot, I can eat. Not everyone hears a .22 go off to secure food. Just a thought;)

I began to think the same way several years ago, and slowly began buying a case here and there whenever I saw a "deal". I just bought a small safe in which to store my "survival" stash, and so I needed to unload my ammo closet and inventory everything. I found I had more than I suspected of almost every caliber. My current stash of .22 LR is over 26,000 rounds, and that's just what's in case lots, does not include the several odd 500-550 rd brick, nor the dozen or so other 50 rd boxes of "shooting" ammo that are laying around here and there.

i hope you home don't catch on fire, lol , banb, bang, bang.

My main stash of ammo is approximately 3,000 rounds of 308 lake city nato and some sealed packs of south african 308. Plenty 12 guage buckshot left over from the Rodney King days, maybe 200 rounds and about 300 rounds of 45acp and 45colt. Oh yeah 400 hundred rounds of 8mm corrosive stuff. All stored in a foot locker in the garage. My wife fears for the fire department. Lake City Armory had some great deals in 762x51 before Obama.

Now I'm stocking up on MRE's and medial stuff like Celox hemostatic granules, trauma gauze and Israeli bandages. I have not found anything as of yet to help with zombie bites. Guess were just sol.

Thanks...I hope my house doesn't catch fire as well, regardless of my ammo situation.

The truth is that ammo has very little impact on a fire, regardless of what you may have seen on TV or movies. There are multiple instances of fire departments doing testing with ammo in fires, and actual fires where homes with ammo stashes have caught fire. By and large, the ammo has not been found to have had much, if any, effect on the fire, nor did it seem to pose any great threat to the firefighters. I've trained with and spoken with several firemen over the years, and they've all expressed little to no concern regarding normal ammunition storage in the home.

For those who don't know, ammunition that ignites in a fire does not fly off at lethal velocities...in fact the bullet itself generally stays in place, and the casing becomes the "projectile", and pops somewhat as a firecracker would. The main exception to this would be rounds that are in the chamber of a firearm and are involved in a fire. These certainly could pose a threat.

LOL, while that IS true...in my 18 year career as a firefighter, I CAN tell you that the casing do travel and I have been hit by a few and the noise they make is scary.....no harm done however.

Tell my wife that, lol

I have about 8000rds of 22LR, 1000 45ACP... note to self, need more 12 gage #8 and 00

I have a black steel cabinet in my garage filled with ammo of all kinds of caliber. I'm up to 1900 rounds of 22LR and building it up as well. One thing for sure, if a fire starts in my house, "GET THE HELL AWAY FROM MY GARAGE"... and watch the NEWS for "Looks like Fourth of July in this town when you what it, a house goes off like....."... later.

This is EXACTLY why you should store the ammo next to gasoline or propane bottles. If you wanna make popcorn, you gotta get the kernels HOT!

With all the woodworking, paint/ finishing stuff, plus welding and then propane bottles, I would treat a fire like the flight deck airman did on the USS Forrestal. I'd damn near die trying to put that fire out before it got too hot. My garage would be worse with chemicals off-gassing than the ammo would be. But still, a lot of ammo stored in a metal box or safe can create some heavy pressures and it would not be a good thing to stand next to if it gets froggy and starts hopping on you.

Exploding rounds in a house fire hurt! 30-30 to be exact. .22's were kinda cool bouncing off my helmet, then the big stuff started popping my legs and they stung pretty good. That was a cool fire. The guy lost about 10 grand in guns, but every issue of Playboy Magazine from the first to the current were in mint condition when we cut his gun safe open after the fire was out! They were HOT! All the guns were under a bed and all of the Playboys were secure in the safe!

I have around 10k+ in 22LR and 1k+ in 45ACP... Go to gun shows you save a ton, especially in Cali. $159 gets you 6300 rounds remington rimfire, and 45ACP you save 25c/round easy over even wallyworld. At the last show I went to over an hour away, I found out one of the biggest ammo places is less than a mile from my house, which saves me a lot of driving :)

Crossroads of the West gun show is TODAY at the OC fairgrounds in Ca. Headed out to work a booth for a buddy.

How is that gun show down there? I enjoy the one at SF Cow Palace. Of course nothing beats the one they have in Reno.

You can never have too much ammo. Got several thousand rounds stored in ammo boxes of various calibers and always think I need more. Dont shoot as much as I used to. Just got back from Wally World with 2 boxes of Winchester 555 bulk 22. Guess I needed them. I used to worry about my ammo of various calibers, quite a few handloads from the late 70's and early 80's and lot of factory ammo. I dont worry cause I know if they are stored right they will last forever.

I bought Miwall's reloads for the first time at the Ontario Crossroads show. Enjoying my .30 cal can with 500 rounds of their 125 gr. tmc 9mm with only one failure to feed(dunno what happened there) and own their 6.5x55 Swede but have yet to fire it. Sure looks good! Miwall is pretty awesome

I used Miwall for off duty qualification, good stuff. 45 ACP and it shot well in my Colt Officers.

This time around the OC Fairgrounds were doing remodeling. It made it a drag to tell you the truth; people were herded over tarps covering the raw dirt, fenced areas made it a maze rather than an open courtyard.

The vendor I was helping did OK; I sold 4 guns today for him. But RifleGear had a major sale, S&W 15 Sport for $599. Del Ton AR15 carbine for $599. DPMS Oracle for $599. They ran the table big time. MiWall had the ammo covered big time with 3 booths; there was no reason to even try some of the other vendors out it was such a tidal wave of MiWall!!!!
Usually this is the biggest show for the southland right before Christmas. It was off by a margin because people were not as comfortable with the showgrounds. Many people said it should have been better, and I tend to agree with them.

Next weekend I will be in Tx. with my GF. The Pasadena gun show will be on, we will check out the stuff they have in free America.

I am just wondering IF the drive down there from Stockton area would be worth it. I usually make the Cow Palace, a pretty good selection, ammo if you get there early on the first day. Is it mainly an outside show or mostly inside, most of all is it a pretty decent size show? How is it compaired to SF Cow Palace GS?

It's a decent show. In 3 weeks there is the next one and it is in Del Mar. It will be back in OC in February. The OC show is a pretty big one, but it was neutered this time. It is usually a really good one. Hoping Del Mar will be a fever pitch considering Christmas will be right around the corner. If it were me, and I were you; I would look up Crossroads of the West and see when they are coming to Ventura Fairgrounds. That is a heck of a lot closer to you!!! We just missed Vegas, I heard that show was like Reno, a monster shin-dig! OC and SF are usually about equal to each other.

Today was pretty good overall; weather was nice, and it was 'Big Guns Sunday' as far as the ladies were concerned!!!:D Like a sea of .50 cal Barrets and .338 Lapuas.

Kept us on guard, locked and loaded all day long!!!!!:)

And, even a couple mosquito .22's for good measure......:p

I live pretty close to the Ontario convention center but I want to check out the Costa Mesa show because I hear it's pretty darn good compared to some other(including the Ontario one) CA Crossroad shows. People on another forum I post at were saying that these shows weren't what they used to be but I didn't find it as bad as they were saying. Honestly, I was looking for ammo, class voucher and some other misc. stuff rather than guns. A lot of the guns I saw were not a very good deal and a member from that forum called out a vendor who marked up the price higher than their regular shop price! Wish there were less miscellaneous vendors like jewelry n' such but I had a lot of fun hanging out with my cousin at our first gun show. I hear some years ago, the Pomona fairplex show was great!

Ok, so I'll look up the one at Ventura Fairgrounds, I see on the calander it's Feb 11th & 12th 2012. Man thats close to Santa Barbara, I know just the place to stay at friday night. It'll give me an excuse to drive my new truck. I like the Reno show, maybe next summer. Thanks rojodiablo.

Is the NRA booth outside there like the Cow Palace?

Cow Palace and Reno are best Crossroads shows I have seen. The last Cow Palace one my buddy who shares the my same first name was looking for an AR-15 and had a cheap .223 bolt action with optic that came with it, got $300 on trade, and one of the Vendors had an MP15 Optics Ready for $899 and I told him most local shops have them 1100-1200 and he should jump on it. So he went for it, I'm wishing I got one too, its a nice AR. Kinda pissed I didn't get one now. Another co-worker just bought the same one and dropped $1200. He was pissed when I showed him the pics.

And the ammo company I found is seriously a stoplight and a couple blocks down from my house Load-X Ammunition Company - Expert Supplier of Factory and Remanufactured Firearm Ammunition, and the prices were good and you can choose load fill and grain, original or reload. Nice dudes too. So feeling good about ammo availability. And two Wallyworlds 7 mins either direction.

My major miss was we both worked Saturday, and were first there Sunday. So we hit up ammo booths, and 12ga shells sold out the day before. So I still need some 00 and #8 12gauge. I didn't make it to the Reno show but one day I want to go to the show in Vegas :)

What do you folks think is a good price for CCI Standard Velocity 22's..(By the Brick..(Blue Box))..and Where can I get a case??

I am just wondering if there will be an influx of surplus ammo (mainly 223) on the markets now the troops are heading back. I saw on the news troops stripping the rounds out of their mags into containers as soon as they arrived in I think Kuwait. I'd look to see possibly 308 ammo also. Just my speculations...

As for the Cow Palace, it's pretty nice, I also renew my NRA for another year and get in free at the door. The ammo is picked over and almost bought up by Saturday evening but, still by far a great show. I have never been to the Vegas show, I'm sure it is like the Reno show but maybe better, again speculating.
