Is s&w condoning trigger upgrades?

I would imagine that the reason the article is on the S&W Facebook page is that it's an overall positive write-up about one of its products. Does it condone the aftermarket modification of the trigger? I doubt it...at least officially. While I don't have the manual open in front of me, if memory serves S&W officially states that modifications may void the warranty. (I'm sure that won't be the case for cosmetic modifications, or some functional modifications like upgrading the sights.) I've read of some instances of a pistol being sent in for repair and S&W returned it with the mods removed and the pistol restored to OEM configuration (I don't have any direct experience with that.) I have to think that if S&W wanted the trigger to be lighter it would do so, but the design of this gun includes a heavier trigger to offset not having an external safety.

Then there's the legal/liability aspect. If S&W officially condoned the trigger enhancement, then it would also be a party to any potential lawsuit that might result.

Frankly, I like the trigger the way it is. It's a safe design and I don't worry about a ND (although I still practice safe gun handling.)

You're probably correct, I just thought it was interesting that they endorsed a review that has modifications that they don't approve. Either way, it's a great gun and the trigger does not bother me at all either

i would have to agree. the trigger is a bit heavier because no external safety. dont want a hair trigger on something that can go off when you put it on your desk or in your inside the waist holster and your shirt gets caught in the trigger guard etc

I'm certain if the OEM trigger can be improved (safely), S&W would do it themselves. Assuming you're talking about striker fired pistols. There's likely a good reason they're as heavy as they are.

I've owned M&P full size, M&P compacts, and Shields. All had OEM triggers that were just fine, after a few hundred rounds.

Yes, the reason they are so heavy on the SD VE series is there is no safety...so s&w wants to make sure you are pulling the trigger when you want. I don't mind the trigger pull at all, ill probably upgrade to the apex polymer trigger because I think the function of the trigger could be better.

Would you folks say that an "upgraded" trigger is important mostly for target shooting? I've read where the long pull can be a negative when discharging quickly for rapid target shooting but in a self defense situation, where odds are the "target" is rather close to one's self, the "heavy" trigger is not an issue.

I'm not going to be competing for any target shooting prizes so in my case, I'm just content with the trigger pull becoming second nature.
