Is the Blue Book of Gun Values serious?

Back in the day, the Blue Book of Gun Values was a good tool for assessing values. With the advent of the internet and many gun websites and auction sites, the old Blue Book makes a good doorstop, but it's a $50 doorstop!

Blue Book is no longer the price guide it was intended to be although it is a very valuable resource of firearms information. Dates of MFG, firearm configurations and specs etc. Regarding pricing on USED firearms, as many have mentioned, use the real time resources available to us via internet, gun shows, gun stores, Gunbroker etc. To further complicate the firearms pricing challenges we face, add regional influences as well as provenance. Experience is our most valuable resource and the longer you have been buying, selling and trading guns the better you are at accurate valuations.

Nothing wrong with the book it's the market that's off.

the same Super Redhawk I bought in 03 for $465. Is pushing $900. Now so everything has gone to heck as far as I'm concerned.

I think everyone should have at least one year of the Bluebook of Gun Values. Yes, it's pricing is almost always off, and sometimes way off. But it does have relevant information that is valuable to collectors, especially if your collection spans multiple brands.
Of course I've had a very low opinion of the Bluebook for many decades because they refuse to include a make and models of gun I collect. For whatever reason the Bluebook excludes Marlin Ballard rifles of all models. And to make things worse they came out with their "Antique Bluebook" and once again omitted Marlin Ballard rifles!!!
A couple decades ago I contacted them offering to give estimates and descriptions for these guns, and was told to "please send up the information so we can add it to our next edition." But nothing ever came of it. Then they contacted me after I again complained the Antique Bluebook omitted the Ballard again, and asked me to remit the same info again! Of course I reminded them of my previous effort, and told them to go fly a kite on another request.
But I still think people should have one copy, from whatever used one they find cheap at a gun show.
