Is the S & W Forum getting hard up for sponcors?

Sponcors should be taken with a grain of salt.

We've been down this road a thousand times. (The big yawn icon goes here)

But I always open these threads up just to see who's eyeballs are hurting and never understand if the adds are at fault or the crying.

I barely notice the adds.....Unless.

I saw a "Put Allan Grayson Back in Congress" banner ad here once.

I have a very tender question or comment. First, two things about me. As you can see, I have posted many comments here. The secound thing is I admit I have never donnated a dime. Now I dont understand how these web sites work as I got into computters only after I retired. I dont have a clue if it costs $10s a year to own a site or a million dollars or for that matter, nothing.
I know I risk getting banned for this simple question: We arent suppose to discuss politics here and it seems we have to be very, very political correct or we get repermanded. I gotta know. Is it mostly because the owner doesnt want to PO potential advertisers? I am able to kick in some donations if others and I can really speak our mind and let whatever potential advertisers go to hell. Then I would donate to help fill the gap. But in my case I personaly feel I HAVE been more than donateing my part with my bs storys etc that draw people AND advertisers to this site.
Well, thats off my chest. Hope I am back tomorrow.

Hi, merril. I think we can help you a bit here; a few have already. It is quite expensive to own and operate a site like this, and the advertising only pays a fraction. The ads aren't chosen by the owner as has been mentioned; and the advertisers have no influence on what is discussed here. They don't come and go based on the viewpoints expressed.

The primary reason political discussion is prohibited is that it inevitably degenerates into endless wrangling and fights which make the forum an unpleasant, unhelpful place to visit. Lee's primary purpose for the forum is to provide an exchange of information re S&W firearms; the Lounge is just a bit of icing on the cake, so to speak.

We appreciate your contributions and hope you'll continue to enjoy our company.

No risk of being banned for that question.
We tried politics. Moderating politics is very labor intensive for the Mods. They work for free.

I'll address specific points-
>"Is it mostly because the owner doesnt want to PO potential advertisers?"
No, we aren't worried about that.
I simply don't want to hear it.
I don't run a political board.
I run an S&W board. Why waste the staff's and my time moderating a bunch of political bickering? No one is going to change their mind anyway, so why burden my ears with the load?

>"it seems we have to be very, very political correct or we get repermanded."
What you are calling 'being PC' is actually just our no offense policy. We won't let any member be badgered, bullied, insulted, or belittled because of race, creed, religion, national origin, ethnicity, or political persuasion. Kinda that "American Way" thing. We want anyone interested in S&W's to feel comfortable participating here. Remember- it's about the guns. All the rest is baggage. If I didn't think a lot of good members would miss it, I'd vaporize The Lounge in a heartbeat! Sorry, folks, that's just the truth.

>"I am able to kick in some donations if others and I can really speak our mind....."
There ain't enough money. :D
Don't get all poochylipped about that one. Just another fact. I've pretty much formed all the opinions I need to ride this sojourn on out, so listening to loads of ranting and bickering not related to our primary subject is not attractive. ;)

The following posts state the facts as well as I could on my best day.
Thanks, guys.
I'm just the opposite. I donate to fill the gap for those who don't donate, for whatever reason, because I like the strict moderation here.

I've been on sites where everybody is at everybody elses throat, and if your not in the let's attack everybody for everything clique then hang it up.

Half the time spent on those other sites were just wading through all of the inter-net babble that had no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

Here, mouse-click for mouse-click, a person learns a lot more for the time spent than on most other forums. On top of that there is joking around, off topic threads, etc. so why open it up to a bunch of angst & animosity?

Once two posters really dislike each other the bickering never stops and others are usually drawn in to taking sides so you end up with feuds, of sorts, and when the moderators try to put a stop to it both sides usually attack them for stepping on "Their Right to Free Speech"

No thank you........

I think the very best thing to do with ads you dont like is to CLICK on them. Why, because it costs them money when you do. What a good warm feeling you get when spending money raised by folks you dont like. The best part is that the money goes to something they dont like but you do.

The forum owners are bound by contract with google not to tell visitors to click on the ads. I have no contract with google, so get busy clicking!!

Its also good click on ads you do like and even visit their sights, or even buy something from them. I get some Brownell ads :)

Amen, Handejector Your response and Snowman's are a beautiful thing ,I've been on other forums and because I don't drink the koolaid somebody always has something nasty to say and in this wonderful country we live in where freedom is the chant of the folks that believe in their second amendment rights some would chastise for speaking what is truly in your heart because it does not coincide with their thoughts so I agree the best way to maintain our freedom of speech is to leave the politics for other places besides this happy place we all enjoy so much. Thanks to you guys that put so much into maintaining this wonderful site.

I'm a political junkie and the ban bothered me at first. I got over it.

I've always liked a risque joke. Lee don't like them here. I got over it.

It's mainly about the guns but the entertainment value of the lounge adds much to my enjoyment of the forum. Where else we gonna put the dog pictures?

I think I'm getting the big half when I get all this forum has to offer for $5 a month. :)

about a month ago I saw a political ad for our current pres....I got darned upset and posted about it. Got dinged and the post was deleted. When I first found this site I belonged to a few other forums, it was during a presidential election year, everyone was skinning each other alive and left for dead. When i happened to come across this site in July 2003 the first thing I noticed was there was NO political discussion, NONE! I was so relived and excited so I joined. I no longer belong to any other site, just Lee's. I've had my ups and downs here, even quit but our boss let me re-join about a year later and he let me keep my state's. Lee is a good man and one that has a good head on his shoulders. I no longer post when I've had a few to many. I plan to donate.

But, for now, the wife and I have the 11.5 foot Arctic Fox camper on the back of my 1999 F350 Power Stroke heading for the Ocean for four days! Yea Hah! will check in here at some point for fun. God Bless all S&W members. Joe

I failed to mention in my earlier post that I would certainly donate were it not for my long-term unemployment, and I certainly WILL do so as soon as that situation is alleviated. I've obtained some very valuable information from the members here, and I want Lee and the members to know that I appreciate it.

I belong to a forum about another hobby of mine and that forum did not restrict any political comments. The problem is that particular forum is very international in membership. There is one member from another country that shall remain nameless unless you head due north from anywhere in the lower 48 states who felt that it was his duty to trash the U.S. in any thread he could. If the conversation was about something being cheaper in the U.S. than in Europe, according to him it was the fault of every citizen of this country. Everything became political even when it wasn't. Having experienced that sort of thing, I LOVE the no politics rule here.
