Is there a three-finger rubber grip for a J-frame like this?

I would like to know if there are aftermarket grips for the 442/642s like the one the M&P Bodyguard 38 special has.

I prefer the grip of the bodyguard over the stock j-frame grips because I can put all three fingers on the grip instead of two. And I do not like the finger grooves. The bodyguard grip is also thin, which is good for concealment, and it's rubber, so it can absorb recoil well. A lot of aftermarket grips for j-frames are big and fat, which I do not want.

So is there any kind of similar grip for j-frames?

Banana grips. You're looking for a style called a banana grip. Now, go find some

FWIW, I use S&W bananas and Hogues if I want a longer J frame grip. I can fit 3 of my average sized fingers on these.

Hogue makes the same style as the pictured grips shown in the previous post. They fit the round butt only and the rubber version sells for ~ $30. My 36-6 came stock with
them from the factory. Very comfortable, but don't conceal well. They're much lighter than the Pachmeyer grippers as well.

I have the Hogue grip and it does feel good, but you need a little tool to take them off and I don't want to deal with that. The Pachmayr ones just screw on like wood grips. I always take grips off to clean and even once or twice a year for a wipe down when the gun isn't even dirty.

I believe you are thinking about Uncle Mike's, which require a wedge shaped tool (you can use a couple of credit cards) and are a bit of a pita to remove. I have the Uncle Mike's on my Model 60, and they're great except the pita removal.

The larger Hogues just require removing a screw on the bottom of the grip and sliding them off.

The laser grips which come on the current J frames equipped with lasers are just large enough to land the pinky, not as large (long or wide) as Hogue's and not as sticky either. Maybe not to expensive if bought on EBay?

Nope. I'm sure it's the Hogue. I own a set and am looking at them right now. There is no little adapter plug that hangs of the bottom of the frame to allow a screw in from the bottom. They slide right one and they come with a little u shape tool that you have to slide up and pry the grips off. Check out this video. At the 2:00 mark you can see the grip. No screw on the bottom.

You don't need the "tool". You can use anything stiff and thin, like a credit card. It's challenging the first time you try it, but a cinch after that.

Maybe I'll try it again. Putting it on and taking it off was such a hassle I put the Pachmayr grips back on. They're the smallest ones. Smaller than the Compact. I think they're called Compact Professionals.
