I'm waiting for toasters to be re-designed so that what now passes for a slice of bread is tall enough to be grabbed without sticking a knife down the slot.

That has happened! The toaster we bought a few months ago has been reduced in size so a portion of the bread slice being toasted sticks out the top. If you want the bread completely toasted you have to turn it upside down and toast it a second time. You have to watch it carefully or the middle section will get burned from being toasted twice!

I think they can cut another foot off the toaster cord. Most appliances used to have a 6 foot cord so you can place it where convenient. It's maybe 2 ft now, I guess that's why the kitchen has a dozen outlets. Joe
I would think it would be due to tripping hazards and having an appliance filled with hot food/liquids landing on you.

Or so it can't be as easily dropped into the bathtub.

My toaster provides the best of both worlds. Easily accepts a full slice of bread and pushes a biscuit up far enough to easily grab it with your fingers.

My Cuisinart toaster was designed to deal with the notorious shrinking bread slice. After the toast is finished, you can push up the handle from its normal resting position, and it will raise your mini-slice above the top of the toaster, just like the good old days.

I see this practice each and every time we go to the Supermarket. Prices go up and the packages get smaller.

Just bought some Bon Ami cleanser yesterday - we like it very much. They are now charging the same per can price for 14 ounces as they did for 21 ounces about 6 months ago. The coffee we buy used to come in 33 ounce bags, now they are 30 ounces - same price. I guess this has happened to some extent for thousands of years - but the last 4 have gotten pretty darn worse!
