I bought this as-new from an old LGS many years ago. I can't ever remember firing it, and condition is pretty much as it was then. I take it out once in a while and clean it.

I'm not certain of the correct term for this model. Is it a K-38, K-38 Masterpiece or other? Anyone know the approximate DOB and value?

Does have TH/TT/TS.

Model 14-4
Serial: 24K10xx

Thank you!

Standard Catalog of S&W (Supica & Nahas):

Model 14 K-38 Target Masterpiece

Approximate era 1977

My opinion:
Value approximately $500 (it appears to be in fairly good condition) w/o box/tools/papers, maybe more depending on location and how bad the buyer wants it

They are great shooters and much fun with wadcutters.

The correct name for this revolver, as printed on the paperwork that came with it, was K-38 Masterpiece Revolver Model No. 14. The dash 4 was made from 1977 until 1982.
Serial numbers 24K1 - 24K6700 were produced in 1978, per Roy.
So there you have it.

Here is a photo of one that shipped in 1980. You can see the Parts List/Instructions for Use paper in the background. The stocks on this one are the later style and differ from yours by virtue of the speed loader cutout.

The K-38 is a great shooter! Bought this one from another cop sometime in the 1980s. It had been sitting in his locker for eons and he had no use for the handgun. Gave him $100 bucks for it. Note the ancient Pachmayr grip adapter.

Very nice. I've been trying to find a 6" with Patridge sight in similar condition for a little while. If I found one locally priced at $500 I'd pick it up in a heartbeat.

Thanks. My memory gets foggier every year, but think I bought that around '95. It was all original in matching serial box. He sold it to me as a 'new' gun and it sure looked new.

I paid $350 for it then, which seemed very steep at the time ...but I couldn't resist. Sure am glad I picked it up.

This is its little brother. I need to send it in for a small problem, but shoots perfect.
