A friend wants to sell his revolver, but is unsure of what model it is.

s/n K149798, 4 in barrel, no model designation behind the yoke.

Welcome to the forum.

That is a K-38 Combat Masterpiece that likely shipped around 1952. Model numbers weren't assigned and stamped on guns until 1957. That is the predecessor of the Model 15. It looks like a very nice gun.

Ok, thanks! That was a fast reply.

Is this a rare gun or something easily found on the market? Any price range sugestions?

I have one just like yours with that same hammer style. I wonder what the desire was for the people ordering these this way. By the way, I sure you will be very happy with it. Congrats

yep i concure a model 15 more than likey it will out last you , lots of them made on the hammers i seen fish hook hammers an what i call the beaver tail hammers an standard , yours looks like a standard , nothing wrong with that , i feel the model 10 was the only one more sold but the 15 was more a police firearm ,. u are going to love it ,

It is a K38 Combat Masterpiece, four inch barrel, the forerunner to the Model 15.

I have one just like it from 1950, birth year gun. I picked it up a couple of years ago in a little local shop for $225 OTD. I was very pleased. Nice!

Tom,

Mine was a similar (identical?) price, but let's not mislead him - I think that a nice 4-crew pre-15 is worth quite a bit more than that.

Who is current on prices?

Well, I would have paid $400-$450 for a pre-15 in that (what appears to be excellent) condition, had I not just purchased a model 15 on GB. I feel that I spent a little much ($415) for mine, but needed one for my collection. On a side note, I beat out "lastbidder" in that auction.

I really like the 4 and 5 screw guns. They have the most attractive hammers. Very graceful. Unfortunately, they changed them for the familiar hammer that they used from some point in the 50's on through the '90's, the design of which is, shall we say, somewhat lacking in grace.
