OP, yes, it looks to be a 'real' S&W 1911. Price doesn't sound so bad, but I would like to check it out first in person to become familiar with tis condition and functionality.
As for Old Grumpy Cop, I wish there were more people sporting your opinions and wealth of fractured knowledge.... the competition to purchase 1911's would be diminished.

He said he was a police chief, so I would think he had something to do with a budget.

He also said he bought a Singer 1911 at a yard sale for $20.00.
I am jealous. Some people have all the luck. I wonder if it was one of the unnumbered ones..... I have been seeking one for years.....
One would think that such a fortunate knowledgeable individual would be a happier person overall.....

The 1911 is military scrap iron! The worst hand gun ever designed or made with staked on parts, 2 piece feed ramps, tongue and groove barrel lock up hinged with a 1/8 link pin and a main spring in the butt handle that is a rust magnet. The failure rate from Colt was so high that our military cancelled their contract and gave to a typewriter company by the name of Remington Rand. They supplied the largest amount of 1911a1 junk to our forces who hated them. That's why Gen Patten refused to carry one. He carried two nickel plated revolvers, One Colt and One S&W in .38 caliber. He called them real"Fighting-man Guns"!!!! He called the 1911 a piece of ****! You get the idea.

Glock is the most intelligent designed pistol ever thought up and that's why over 60% of our police forces issue them and S&W and Sig. copied them. Thank GOD our military junked them and gave our fighting forces a real gun to use. England just replaced all the military Browning 9 mm high powers with Glock 17 and ordinance maintenance dropped 81%. Besides Browning died before the Hi-POWER went into production.

Glock has only 37 parts and rarely fail. 1911's have over 60 parts of which 37 constantly fail. They also need an oil change every 300 rounds to keep running. I would not take a 1911 if you gave it to me. In fact, they did give me one in Vietnam and I threw it away and picked up a Chinese Tok TA33 and carried that. Now that little baby could crack and engine block on a Willies Jeep and the .45 flying ash tray bounced off the tires.

So all you 1911 junk lovers can flame me all you want to but go see what is in police holsters and military holsters all over the world. It won't be 1911 junk!

End of rant! Man that felt good!

Actually, I think you just flamed yourself, twice.

Glocks also have the unique distinction of having a body part named after them...Glock leg.

I once (well 3 rounds) shot a Glock that someone handed me to check accuracy for him.

The first shot startled me, the thing went off with barely a touch.
Two more shots and I handed it back.. NEVER wanting to shoot another one..Striker guns..not on my list.

There was something very wrong with that Glock, then.

Even with the most aggressive OEM parts, the Glock trigger is really only about "moderate".

The next level up is OEM-alikes. For instance, a +1# trigger spring (which lightens pull), an aftermarket connector, a replacement trigger on a Gen3 trigger bar, and a -1# striker spring will give you a very light trigger with a lot of travel. That's actually the setup I have, and while it's a ton of fun to shoot, I'd probably return the trigger spring and striker spring to stock if I was going to use it for holster'd gun games. And it goes without saying I wouldn't carry it.

That said, OEM-alike setups are still safe. I'd personally divide them into two groups--those use a connector which retains the "wall" in the pull as in the factory trigger, and those that delete it. The latter, in my estimation, isn't really suitable for off-the-range duty.

Stage Three is where things start getting stupid: complete trigger replacements that alter the original trigger geometry, usually in order to get that "crisp 2.5#" trigger everyone thinks is so special. For instance, the Zev trigger kit is notorious for this.

Pre-travel is critical to having a safe Glock, not only for holster safety, but also to make the pistol drop-safe. When you monkey with the trigger geometry to reduce pre-travel to nonexistent levels, then by necessity, there is less interference and engagement between the sear on the trigger bar and the striker. At this point, you're relying on the striker safety plunger as your only real means of drop-safety. This is bad for two reasons. The first is that there's only one system standing between you and a bad time. The other is that you've got a gun that can de-cock itself if you hit it just right, which you're counting on to stay cocked during carry.

This is why it's important to know how a pistol works before you start throwing parts at it. There are plenty of dishonest, unethical, and utterly retarded individuals in the aftermarket parts business.

TL;DR--your buddy is a cretin and monkeyed with his gun and made it unsafe. If he wanted a 1911 trigger pull, he should have bought a damn 1911.

Sounds like it had work done. Biggest complaint of stock Glock is the wall. Once I went lighter connector and polished the inner bits its a whole new gun. What you described sounds like they also did springs and possibly swapped the striker and safety plunger.

He's a troll. He copy/pastes this stuff from post to post. So either do like I did and report him, or stop feeding him attention.
