Issue at COSTCO today

I read through the entire discussion.

I went to Costco yesterday. I got 2 cans of bear spray, some vinegar, zyrtech and two rotisserie chickens. I was carrying a gun (To clarify I was carrying concealed, I don't Open Carry EVER) and I frequently see people open carrying in our Costco. No one seems to mind.

The older I get the shorter the list of things I think are worth getting dialed up over gets, this ain't it.

When I was working a lot of people treated me like dirt. I didn't like it and I remember that every time I encounter someone who's working a menial job and go out of my way to be as courteous as possible

I've never been asked if I'm carrying a gun except once by some cops while I was working. If asked I'm pretty sure I'd say 'Nope" and keep right on walking.

I certainly wouldn't waste my time griping to the manager.

I think you brought up a very valid observation.

Where you live in Colorado open carry and CC of a hand gun is every day life. As it should be. Someone loudly asking you if your carrying is a non issue and would carry very little negative response. From you or people around you. I sincerely hope it stays that way.

Unfortunately in other parts of the country asking loudly means something totally different publicly and has potential for escalation.

At my Costco near the city the odds of a customer calling the police would be very real.
Upstate Pa it would be a non issue.

I’ve been a Costco member for many years. I have carried a J Frame S&W all my adult life and I’d feel naked without it so I CCW my 442-2 in a pancake holster under my pocket tee shirt everywhere. In addition to my Concealed Pistol License, I was commissioned for life in this state when I graduated the Academy. I’m not gonna stand by and watch some active shooter shoot a bunch of innocent people so I CCW.

Every state is different...not to mention local ordinances.

The poster stated that carrying a firearm in that store in violation of their policy would constitute trespassing in most states.

I asked him to provide a specific statute that says that

Never been in a Costco, but their property their rules as far as I'm concerned. Of course, that also means that I don't have to shop there.

Nowhere that I shop has the signs legally required by the state of Texas to ban guns from their property . If I see such a sign, I will either return to my vehicle and disarm, or I will shop elsewhere depending on how badly I need what I was looking for.

Kudos to you, sir, for respecting the rights of merchants to establish rules and set standards for those entering their businesses.

It's truly puzzling to read the comments of so many people who doubtlessly consider themselves to be law-abiding citizens, but at the same time boast of their contempt for, and willful disregard of, rules and policies they find inconvenient...

I pay $120 a year for Executive Membership and I guess I don’t feel like waiving my Constitutional Rights too. It’s not been much of an issue in my corner of the world though, a lot of CWP’s issued and therefore a relatively low violent crime rate.

There is nothing on Costco that states anything about no firearms.
This guy just is making up his own rules it looks like!

I don't approve or like their no weapons rule but they do have one. If never heard of it being enforced locally but they could if they wanted to and trespass you out for carrying and I believe revoke your membership.

I just hope they have a "don't ask, don't tell" approach to concealed carry.

From Costco's Member Privilege and Conditions page under General Policies.

Costco policy prohibits firearms and other weapons to be brought into the warehouse, except in the case of authorized law-enforcement officers.
