Its cold

This morning the temperature dropped to zero when the sun came up. It's warmed up to 15 "above" as of this afternoon.

My son Ryan went fishing this morning and left at 4:00AM.

It's 62 here in Western Arizona, going up to 72 today. The breeze started awhile ago, might need a jacket to ward off the wind chill. The State is now full of Snowbirds from the Northern States and Canada...people everywhere!

Yep, cold here in SE AL. It's above feezing now...high today of 38, then back down to the teens tonight. Pipes froze for a little bit today. Had to re-evaluate my system.

Cajunlawyer, You need to crack some faucets some, so when water can flow, it will flow. Leave a faucet open a small flow amount when freezing can occur. The cold down south is not going bye bye for a few days and it will be below freezing even in Orlando tomorrow. Frozen pipes lead to the real mess, a broken pipe or fitting, I had one last year.

It's 10:27 and it has warmed up to 29 degrees for cryin' out loud. I know I'll get some chuckles from you guys up north but down here that's COLD!!! My pipes are frozen (thank gawd I was able to get that one flush from the toilet) I can't make coffee or grits can't take a shower can't do nuttin 'cept sit here in fromt of the 'puter and bitch & moan-thank goodness the wife and daughters are out of town.

Cajun,

Frozen pipes are a pain, I'll sure grant you that. Does your wife have a blow dryer? If so, you might take an extension cord and the dryer, and find the sections of pipe that are nearest an exterior wall, or which run past a source of draft such as an open foundation vent. Open the spigots in the house first, then run the dryer on high along the sections of pipe just mentioned. When the spigots start to run, you know you've found the trouble. Then, if subfreezing weather is expected to continue, leave a couple faucets running very slowly overnight. Moving water won't freeze nearly as easily. Also be sure all foundation vents are closed.

Maybe none of this is feasible in your case; but if it is, you might try it. Hope things are back to normal for you soon.

Andy

Moonman: I see that I was writing as you posted. Pardon the redundant words about opening the faucets.

Greetings from balmy Wisconsin;
It's +14F here, and still climbing, might even hit +15F today!
Supposedly, we'll see 32F on Wednesday.
When you're not prepared for a cold-snap it's a real PITA.
Has anyone else gotten a fresh load of global warming dumped
on them?

chuckle ...

It's a relatively warm day here in central Alaska, -5 here on our ridge. I checked and it's -20 or so down in the flats along the Tanana River.

Oh, that was +20 folks were complaining about.

Heck, that's shirt sleeve weather.......

I am glad to see people in Florida say it is cold. Most people don't believe my Florida trip. I had heard all my life that it is always warm in Florida. In Dec. of 1985 I made 2 trips to Florida (my first and last). Didn't take a coat and when we got to Jacksonville it was 26 deg. and the wind was blowing 40 mph. One day at Disney they shutdown part of the rides because the wind was blowing so hard.Stayed 2 weeks and ended up going about 100 miles below Tampa and the warmest night was 28 deg. I have worked outside at minus 10 deg. and a minus 45 chill factor but my 2 weeks in Florida was the coldest I have ever been and my worst vacation. Larry

Teacher: (taking attendance) Gore?....... Gore?.......Gore?
Girl: Um, he's sick. My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's
girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with a
girl who saw Al get his tongue stuck to a light pole last night. I guess
it's pretty serious.

It was minus 7 here in Illinois this morning and it warmed up to 10 or so. It has been like this since Christmas or so.

You're pipes froze at 29 degrees??!!?? Do ya'll run them overhead in LA?
No they froze at 24. It had warmed up to 29 degrees. I know about the drip-but didn't think I needed to do it last night-I will tonight though. My house is on piers and the main runs are on the north side. I've got running water now and thankfully no broken pipes-I think-will have to wait until tommorrow for the wife to come home so she can crawl under the house and check them out more throughly.

Is this your house Caj?

My niece lives in Alberta, before Christmas she e-mailed that it was -51F.
Her car engine with two block warmers would not turn over. I told her that it was foolish to even think about driving when it was that cold.
She is a bit of a greenie so I could not resist asking about using the bicycle. That is some serious cold.
