Its the holidays again and things are once again getting crazy!

I actually thought the colder more uncomfortable weather would slow our street crime down, but at 2:30 this A M, with a 33 degree chill and gusting winds, along with intermittent rain, there was an armed robbery of a quick-mart.

I'm guessing crack makes you immune to most everything but a good dose of ammo ??

Living outside of DC in the late 80's was a thrill a minute. Lots of gunfire etc in the area. Got offered a great job with the DEA in the DC office. Had to move the kids and wife to a safer place and reject offer. Small town USA is the way to go, gotta laugh though, first winter here way back when and my son got a gun stuck in his face and his car stolen at a Taco Bell. What are we going to do, even the best laid plans.....of course move, but is there a safe space anymore? or just a safer one?

We moved from the big city to a small semi-retirement town in a rural area. I love it. I am on a first name basis with many of the town police and sheriff's deputies. A large percentage of the older citizens carry concealed. The chief of police encourages people to get their permit and carry. There is a good relationship between local law enforcement and the town's citizens. LEOs are all friendly and helpful. It's the kind of place you can live and feel as safe as you are going to be in this day and age. Don't get me wrong, there is crime, but not the sort that preys on the elderly and helpless. The local cop is your friend, not your enemy.

I guess most people are crazier than a soup sandwich. If they weren't we wouldn't be toting around hand cannons around town right??? Well the crazies just seem to get crazier around the holidays so I wanted to discuss some real world strategies and life stories of your encounters. I dont know about you but I live in a big city in the south and its pretty bad and getting worse. Since I have been typing this in the past five minutes there has already been two shootouts of multiple handguns that I just heard close to my neighborhood. I had a chalk outline of a young kid 10 yards from my front door that was the victim of a full auto AK 47. A few days ago the gas station down the road from me had an armed robbed twice right before I pumped gas and than right afterwards. When I got home from work yesterday I watched a prowler from my front balcony with a crowbar and a LED flash light look into all the vehicles in my neighborhood. I have beefed up some security in the past few months. The police are some what efficient around here but you cant fully count on them. Its just me and my girlfriend living in this appartment. I taught her how to use a firearm and she is somewhat proficient at it. What strategies and real world experiences have worked for you and what things were you glad you have done to make yourself and your loved ones more safe? Thanks!

Reading this, I was first struck by the similarities of the situations of another members many posts over the years who is unable to post anymore. Per etiquette and possibly forum decorum that is all one can or should say about that situation. To the OP can you afford to wait to get out of the situation surrounding you? It only takes a second for something to happen that can cause a lifetime of regret no matter how it is resolved.
You have described too many close calls! Situational awareness is paramount!

They're shooting all over the place and you can't move now?

How much easier is it going to be to move with a couple bullet holes in you.
