J Frame Photos, Let's See Yours

I have a S&W 642.... I want to get a lighter trigger pull as the recoil is huge & no fun to shoot at the range! Should I just keep practicing?

Welcome aboard from Wyoming.

Congrats on your 642.

A "lighter trigger pull" isn't going to have much affect on the recoil. I agree with shep854, shoot .38s. I keep jacketed flat nose in mine.

And, yes, keep practicing. The heavy trigger pull might relax a bit with more rounds, and you'll either become accustomed to the trigger and recoil or decide it's not for you. Give it a chance before you give up, though.

You'll never hear me say, "Yes, go buy that semi-auto."

Cheers,

Bob

I'm a new gun enthusiast & a member of the NRA & took course, "Basics of Pistol Shooting"! I am continuing to be instructed & bought a S&W 642 but the recoil IS TOUGH... I'm thinking of buying the S&W MP 2.0 9mm or the Shield. Any opinions I'd appreciate

Welcome aboard from West Virginia. You have a fine revolver there. As the others have suggested, try .38 specials in it. I have several of these lightweight guns, and they are great. The trigger will smooth out with use.

Best Regards, Les

Another Lady followed me home last night

Here's a 1989 Model 60-3 LS with the purple plastic case and tools (BDV5668). Sort of an odd, but fun, little thing.

I was looking for a 3" barrel thread, but this J frame thread is probably just as appropriate.

My new to me 36-1 with 3" barrel.

I picked it up today from another owner. It came with the Herrett's as shown and the original grips. I'm a bit unsure if I'll keep the Herrett grips and won't know until I get it to the range.

Since I plan to carry this on occasion, I'll also need to find a holster. Suggestions on that are welcome.

Shown here along with it's big brother Model 13-4 with 3" barrel.

If I don't like the Herrett's, I might go the stock grip/Tyler T adapter as on the Model 13-4.

Very nice, introduced 1967.

You may want to consider a holster for the 2" with an open bottom and it'll carry with less bulk just like a 2".

I didn't think of a 2 inch holster. I'll have to look around and see what's available. My gun has an AWA pre fix. I looked in the SCSW and I think it's 1987. No pinned barrel, but stil a nice gun.

Smooth Magna grips, in rosewood, Tyler adaptor. Holster: Bianchi Model 5 on belt or M-6 for inside waistband.

That's what I used on my gun like yours and was very satisfied. Get the holsters for three-inch guns. I disagree with the man who said to use an open bottom holster for a snub.

That M-36-1 is a fine small .38. Much easier to shoot than a snub and gives about 80-100 FPS better velocity with some loads.

Your Herrett's grips are for open carry or range use, not concealment.

My soon to be no longer mine Model 34-1, Nickel plated.

It's become a safe queen, so I decided to sell it on. Listed it on a forum yesterday at 11:00 AM, had an offer at asking price by 6:00 PM. I'm either a genius at pricing or might have been a bit too low. Doesn't matter as what I got out of it pays for the 36-1 and a Side Guard holster, the exact model to be determined.

Early 1982 production according to the SCSW. I have a very recent 351C that will replace it. Pictures of that when I get a chance.

Anyway, here it is.

Look at post 376, from CRSides. See the smooth rosewood Magna grips? That's what I referred to in my earlier post where I said I had those on a M-36-1, with a Tyler adaptor.

Thanks to Mr. Sides for showing that finely engraved gun and those rosewood stocks. I don't think the factory sells them any longer. Mine were bought at a gun show about 20 years ago and are not for sale.

Got some new grips. Look great in all the different lighting. Not bad for sight-unseen Hogue Cocobolos.

I typically only order grips that I can actually see the exact grips I'll receive, but took a chance on these from Amazon and they're awesome.
