jamming M&P 15-22

Just purchased a 15-22 this afteroon, looking forward to firing it when I get home from work this evening, I am sure it will run fine just like every other S&W product I own.

Mine shoots everything except Winchester bulk white box. It even likes Golden Bullets. My personal favorite 22LR is CCI Standard Velocity, but these days you have to take whatever you can get. I've shot Federal bulk, MIni Mags, Aguila Super Extra, Aguila Match Rifle, Aquila Match Pistol, Remington Thunderclaps and Golden Bullets, CCI AR something or other, Winchester Super X, Fiocchi, Federal Match Target bulk and 50 round boxes, Federal Champion bulk packs, CCI Blazers, and probably some others I've forgotten. They all worked in the little 15-22 except that stinkin' white box in the 333 or 555 bulk packs. It shoots okay through a revolver or bolt action, though.

Took my brand new 15-22 out today and put ~400 rounds through it.

About every 3rd or 4th shot, I was jamming. Most of the time it was shell casings that were not ejecting properly. What gives!

I had the same problem when I first got mine. Not every 3-4 shots but a couple each mag. I put a volsquarten extractor in mine. Problem solved. No more shell casings crushed by returning bolt

Just got one two days ago and shot it for the first time today, chewed through the winchester 555 round copper plated hollow points no problem, which honestly surprised me. Had three or four failure to fires due to a light strike on the round, which is the fault of me only running bottom tier bulk pack ammo through it, which actually runs amazingly well.

I think I somehow got some Remington ammo mixed in with my browning/Winchester, and that would not even chamber. I have always had issues with Remington ammo in .22's.

Cured my problem by replacing extractor with the Volquartsen product. Not a single failure failure , compared to every 4-5 rounds with stock extractor and same ammo.

Sent telepathically

I'll add another thumbs up for the Volquartsen extractor. Bought a new 15-22 about a month ago. I was having ~2-3 FTE's (stovepipes) every mag across multiple mags and multiple ammo brands (CCI AR Tact, Federal, Win., Tac-22, etc.). Put in the Volquartsen extractor (search some youtube bolt take down videos, it's pretty easy), and have since put about 1000 rounds through it with only 1 FTE (cci mini-mag). That's one more than I'd like, but MUCH better than what I originally had, and after 1000 rounds I'm willing to chock it up to a slight hickup. We'll see after another few thousand.

Yeah it sucks that when you purchase your rifle you have to plan on spending another 15-20 ish bucks to get it into shooting condition, but life isn't all rainbows and unicorn farts I suppose.

Much the same problem

Have a new M&P 15-22 with over 200 rounds through it that did a stovepipe every 8-10 rounds with Aguilla hi-velocity ammo in different mags so I e-mailed S&W customer service. They said to oil the bolt well and try using lower velocity ammo because the break-in period is 400 rounds and they won't take a rifle in for service before then.

So I tried some standard velocity ammo @ 1085 fps and some lower velocity Gameshok @ about 1200 fps but the FTEs happened every other round. Next week I'll try some higher velocity stuff like CCI Velocitor @ 1420 fps and some Winchester X @ 1280 before I get to customer service.

Out of the box mine was extremely reliable with seven or eight different HV and SV brands, but stovepiped with Winchester bulk (222, 333, 555, etc.) I replaced the extractor with a Volquartsen extractor and it's been functioning about as perfectly as a .22 rimfire can since the replacement. This includes functioning with my remaining stock of Winchester bulk.

I probably have somewhere near 4K through it now. I shoot it in weekly steel matches with a wide variety of ammo (including Aguila HV and SV.) It's as dependable as my 10/22s. And as much as I love 10/22s (I have seven of them), that's saying a lot.
