Just bought M&P 45, how did I do?

Well, got the new M&P 9 out of layaway 12-23-14, just in time to put it in the safe and head out of town for Christmas :-(

Went to the range today and fired 100 rounds without any issues. The accuracy is definitely there! Started a new thread about it....

First range trip of the new year 1-3-2015.

Another 51 rounds of the 185 gr. LSWC reloads without issue. There was an extra bullet in the box-reason for 51 rounds :-)
Round count so far seems to be 496. Only 1 Fail to Feed with 200 gr. LSWC reload.

Waiting on an order from X-Treme BULLETS for some 230 gr. plated RN to try. Bullseye, TiteGroup, Red Dot, 700X and CFE Pistol are my choices; any suggestions?

You're having fun, aren't you? :) All of the powders you mention should work great in your M&P45 with the 230-gr plated round-nose bullets. Bullseye and 700X are literally the "old standbys" with .45 target shooters. Of the two I always slightly preferred Bullseye in the .45, but have used a lot of 700X too. Both work great. Don't know much about CFE for pistols but it seems to be getting popular with rifle shooters. I don't see it sitting on the shelves long any more like I used to when it was first released. Red Dot was always popular too because it used to be readily available and cheap. Of course you can't go wrong with 231/HP38, and I have always been fond of WST (before that 452AA) in the .45 Auto too.

As just a matter of not abusing my 1911s, I never loaded the slower powders very much. Any of the powders you mention will either make 850 FPS, or come very close to it, in a 5-inch gun. There is not a lot to be gained by loading super-hot .45s, and there is something to be lost if one makes a practice of it, IMO.

M29,

Bullseye has always been my "go to" powder for target/range ammo. Red Dot does a good job for me also. TiteGroup was the first handgun powder to hit shelves in my are for almost a year, so I bought 3 lbs. hoping it would work; it does in my 9mm with 115/124 gr. plated bullets. The 700X and CFE Pistol I bought when I found it on the shelf, haven't opened either of those yet.

I don't load anything hot/max, no need to, I just shoot for fun & enjoyment these days. Looking forward to trying the plated bullets in my M&P and Ruger SR1911 :D

1-10-2015 Another range trip...

Spent a few hours at the range. Loaded some test rounds for the M&P 45 to try.

Load #1 R-P brass
230 gr. Falcon Bullet Co. cast LRN
Rem 2 1/2 LP primer
4.3 grs. Bullseye
C.O.L. 1.265"

Load #2 R-P brass
200 gr. Falcon Bullet Co. cast LRN/FP
Rem 2 1/2 LP primer
4.3 grs. Bullseye
C.O.L. 1.240"

Both loads functioned flawlessly-no issues with feeding/functioning/ejecting. Wasn't as concerned with accuracy, but both printed same POI on target. Even loaded 2 mags with both rounds/every other load and still no issues with feeding/function. Now that I know both loads will function, my next trip I will see what kind of accuracy I can get from a rest. Loaded 30 rounds of each, so round count is now 556.

And I just received my first order from X-treme bullets. If the bullets shoot anywhere near as good as they look, I'll be VERY happy! :-)

I've been using their bullets for some time now. I'm sure you'll be happy.

Well, I'm VERY happy with the X-treme plated bullets! :D

Loaded 60 rounds to split between my M&P 45 and my Ruger SR1911 and shot them at the range today.

The 30 rounds I shot through the M&P made a big, gaping hole in the B-24 target dead center @ 7 yards. Load was 4.3 grs. Bullseye, Rem brass and 2 1/2 LP Primers. Not only do I have some "wiggle room" with the Bullseye, but I may try some Red Dot and TiteGroup just to see. But for range/practice ammo, this load worked great!

Also tried the same load with some cast LRN 230 grain, but they didn't group quite as well in the M&P; but shot great from the Ruger. Funny how some things work in some guns, but not in others. Fun day. Round count now 606.

1-24-2015 Range trip

My weekly trek to the range this weekend. Loaded 100 rounds to split between my M&P and my Ruger SR1911.

1) R-P brass
REM 2 1/2 LP Primer
4.6 grs. Bullseye
Falcon Bullet Co. 230 gr. Cast LRN @ .452"
C.O.L.-1.260"

2) R-P brass
REM 2 1/2 LP Primer
4.6 grs. Bullseye
Falcon Bullet Co. 200 gr. Cast LRN/FP @ .452"
C.O.L.-1.240"

I upped the charge from 4.3 grs Bullseye to 4.6 grs. for both bullets. shot very well through both guns. Shot 30 rounds mixed from both guns at 7 yards into a B-24 target-no center left! :-) Found that POI from the Ruger was slightly below that of the M&P, but not enough to be a concern for me-still center of mass. And could just be me, you never know LOL

Fun trip as usual and no issues to report from either 45. Next order from X-treme bullets, I'm going to try the 200 gr. flat point and see how that shoots. I've always been a big fan of cast lead bullets, but the price of plated bullets has me thinking of making the switch, especially on the 9mm and 45 auto. Easier & cleaner to load and shoot.
Round count for the M&P 45-656.

Prices vary depending on what part of the country you live in. What is good for you might be high/low for me.

Enjoy your gun. I like my M&P45!

Range trip today 3-7-2015

Had been a while since I had taken either of my 45's to the range, so today the M&P 45 went along. Stopped at WM and picked up a box of the Federal Aluminum 230 gr. FMJ ammo. I've mentioned this before, but if I didn't reload; I'd shoot this ammo almost exclusively! This ammo has been very consistent and accurate. No issues at all. And at $14.97/50 rounds, not bad for range ammo.
Round count now 706 through the M&P 45 :-)

Range trip 4-18-2015

16 rounds PMC 230 gr. FMJ. Was letting a guy from work shoot my M&P 45 and Ruger SR1911 for the first time. :-)

Round count 722

Range trip 6-27-2015

Hmmm, I must've missed one somewhere, as I finished off the box of PMC Ball ammo prior to this trip. So, I'll just add it in with this one. So 34 rounds PMC 230 gr. FMJ + 50 Rounds REM-UMC 230 gr. FMJ through the M&P 45. So it appears round count is now 806.

Gotta love those M&P's :-) No complaints here!

Range trip 2-20-2016
And my 1,001st post :-)

Nearly 8 months since I've shot my M&P 45-What??

50 rounds Federal Champion Aluminum Case 230 gr. FMJ-No issues at all. A beautiful day to be outside and at the range! This ammo runs great in all my pistols. $14.97/box 50 and I don't have to chase the brass! LOL

Total round count 856
