I might get flamed for this but i'm curious. Does anyone ever carry a magazine thats not full to capacity to save on weight for ccw? I carry an M&P 40 in a Super tuck Deluxe and it's not heavy by any means but today i took 7 rounds out of the mag to make it an even 8 and i could barely tell it was on my hip. Felt real good. I doubt i'll carry it this way much. (it's better to have and not need, then need and not have) but i was just wondering what the concensus was on this practice.

Thank you,
Mike

PS, whats the weight on 7 .40 165 grain bullets?

Ya know, I have not...I'm always in that deal of a jackpot wheres,
"If I's jest had one more cartridge!" ;):D

As that thar ol Smith boy sez, "Comfortin...Not Comfortable!" or sum such sayin.

Su Amigo,
Dave

I guess logically it makes some sense, as I occasionally carry the 7 rounds in my 1911 without a spare mag.

Don't quote me on my math... I'm on spring break. ;)

7 x 165 grains = 1155 grains

7000 grains in a pound

1155 grains = .165 lbs or 2.64 ounces of bullets.. what do the casings / powder weigh? Don't as me, I'm not really a re-loader.

What's that quote about " I've never seen anyone in a gunfight complain about having too much ammo" ?

I usually don't download magazines by more than one cartridge. While driving on business I do go through a couple municipalities that have a magazine capacity limit for pistols, so I have 10-rounders to keep on the good side of the law, I hope. Those always have 10 rounds in them.

The 10-round thing really doesn't bother me too much, other than just the general silliness of it. I suppose it could happen but I am of the opinion that the chances of a private citizen needing a whole bunch of ammunition is highly unlikely.

For a policeman, especially if he is working alone, I suppose it is handy to have a lot of ammunition in the pistol, ready to go, but it does make the gun (and magazines) heavy.

A good idea if weight is a big concern, I would add a visual que, like a large number or letter on all 4 sides of the light mag in a bright color, so there would be fast recognition to what I was putting in my gun/mag holder.
