When you were in the Service, and in a unit where you were assigned a specific weapon, do you still recall your weapon serial number?

The M-14 I was assigned while in Korea, 1965-'66, my weapon SN was 864971.

Why do I remember this still after nearly 60 years? Basically because during inspections every Saturday the inspecting officer would ask when he had your weapon in his hands and you better be able to tell him! How good is your memory?

As a medic I was not issued a shoulder weapon, only a .45 semi-auto. The CO allowed us medics to have what ever we could get a find ammo for. I don't recall the serial numbers of any of them. This was in Chu Lai in 66.
