Just found my first S&W in the garage.

Sorry realized i posted this in the wrong forums originally.

just happened to stumble (almost literally) across my first S&W today while cleaning out the garage, found my wife's father old service revolver from Korea.

We had found the cleaning kit, holster and other US army issued stuff including the original wood grips but where never able to locate the pistol it self.

As you can see he had a lot of work done on it, serial is s93xxx and all match.

WOW,The carving on the Ivory is beautiful.I would think about sending the cylinder to Ford's refinishing to be reblued to match the rest of the Gun.After that just put a nice coat of oil or wax on it and pass it down through the Family.That Sir, is a work of art!

the ivory is awesome and the engraving on the 1950 Military is pretty nice too, but I agree with Alex, that plum cylinder has got to be fixed

Found a 500 round brick of 22LR and 3 50 round boxes of 45ACP.

Nothing like you found, but not a total loss. LOL.

That is an outstanding family heirloom!
Besides the sentimental value, the grips appear to be ivory, which enhances the value regardless of the provenance.

Nice! I don't have to go look. I don't keep guns in the garage! Ammo either. Now,if you want to find deerstands,decoys,fishing rods,skeet chunkers,antlers,waders,etc.,etc.,that's another matter.

The plum cylinder doesn't bother me a bit. You have a fine gun there, but also a piece of intensely personal history.

It's a .45 Military model of 1950, likely shipped in late 1953 to early 1954 by the serial number. Be sure to put a light coating of oil on the metal and (I think?) olive oil on the stocks. Someone here will correct me on the latter comment if I am wrong. Glad to see you found it.

Honestly i had been looking for the gun before in the attic we thought i was around some where but had no idea where, and oddly enough my wife does not remember it looking like that, I told her it was highly unlikely that it turned into that sitting in a box

It was in a no discripted box, in side a plastic bag, her father must have taken good care of it, it still had some oil on the cylinder and around it, there is a tad bit of rust but im pretty sure i can clean that up.

O ya on the subject of finding stuff im not sure i even want to mention this but i did find these with it ><

Wow! And it appears to still be in excellent condition. Most steel items left in a garage will develop corrosion.
I would have the side plate off for an inspection and cleaning. Other than that plus cleaning and oiling; I'd leave it alone and not refinish anything. I'd want to keep it the way dad liked it.

Taffin recommends a light coating of baby oil on the inside of the ivory grips once or twice a year. It doesn't look carried or neglected enough to have been a service revolver. You have a S&W treasure there.

Welcome to the forum.

DO NOT try to refinish the cylinder. It would need to be buffed to remove the blue which would also affect the engraving. This plum condition is not unheard of with S&W cylinders and is merely the way that that part aged. I would definitely leave it alone.

the 2 colts im assuming you where asking about one has nothing on it but a serial number of 200XX the other has a list of patent dates i think starting with sept 19 1871? and serial number 148XXX
