My time is up. Yesterday, I recieved a call from HR and a follow-up email, that I am being "processed out" at the end of January. After 5-1/2 years I will get two weeks severance. Great.

If anyone has a need for a Forensic Mechanical Engineer, I know a good one.

I guess to keep this post "legal" ....S&W revolvers ROCK!

Been there a couple of times. Horrible experience.
The state civil service has thousands of jobs-most states will allow for on-line resumes and applications.
Same with the Federal agencies and various Departments (DArmy, DNavy and so on).
If you able to deploy you can make good money in Iraq, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia etc.
One of the biggest problems these folks have with hiring. People who can't get a clearance (Secret) or can't pass a background check.

I feel your pain brother. I am finally going back to work after being unemployed for 7 months. I wish you all the luck and prayers.

What is a Forensic Mechanical Engineer?

If you are willing to move western Washingtion, which I doubt, I am looking to hire a sales / project engineer. It is a salary position with good pay and bennies.

My best wishes to you. Take a breather to gather your wits, then get to the unemployment office and any state employment offices and get your name on everything you can.
Good luck.
Oh, and, I assume you have a degree, with that fancy title, contact you alma mater's career center, it's a good source of job listings.

Best wishes hope you find something soon. I "unemployed" myself 3 years ago. Time to make room for the younger guys. Haven't had a bad day since.

"willing to move western Washington"

Heck Joe, need a janitor, gofer, or bootlicker? I'm gainfully employed, but to live in the NW Washington area, I'll retire!

Although I have yet to submit a req to HR I am looking for an all around guy, or gale, /maintenance / carpenter / plumber / electrician / shop helper / janitor / all around type of person to do odds and ends around here, things break and need repairing. When there is nothing to fix then this person would work in the shop. It does not pay much though and cost of living around here is kind of high. Guess it is everywhere.

As for the OP, I hope you find another job soon and I really feel for those who get the pink slip, I would be sunk, really sunk if that were to happen to me. My worst nightmare.

Joe

Do an online search (google, etc.) for your states unemployment info.. You may be able to apply without going to an office. Good luck to you. Do it now.

duck,

You might want to look at some of the National Labs. Most of them are undergoing mission changes about now, and they're laying people off, but they are also hiring folks with new skill sets. I know for sure that's happening here in Aiken, SC, at the Savannah River National Lab and the Savannah River Site. There's some failure analysis going on, and it sounds like a Forensic ME might be useful.

I'm sure you know this, but go down and sign up for unemployment benefits. You won't get rich, but it will help while you're looking.

Good luck,

Buck

I do understand, but it seems like half the US Army is moving to Huntsville under the BRAC auspices. I would think that positions both civil service and contractor would become available as people retired rather than move. I know that was the case in the Navy's BuPers move.

I feel for you and hope you find a job soon. I have two good paying jobs myself one is in a hospital the other I am self employed electrician. It takes it to pay the bills I assure you I would love to have a day off. In the past I have hired temp help to only be burned due to having to pay unemployment on top of having to pay unemployment quarterly on these same peolpe. I just got a request for unemployment >$200 for a guy that begged me for a job and I mean begged me for weeks to only be stood up by him three times before I fired him. He worked for about a month and a half. The last time he called the night before to tell me how greatful he was that I was letting him work and how dedicated to get the jobs done. Now that being said I take a hard look at who I'm hiring and how low I can pay them so that when my need for them is over I can afford to pay the claim. I thought that the unemployment I was paying quarterly covered the "unemployment" after I no longer had a need for them. Just saying that is what you are looking at from the business perspective. I'm not the easiest person to work for but still I get a lot of people asking me for a job so they can pay the light bill, rent, or the car payment only to be burned by the government. As much as I would like to help them out I am caught in a bad position with the expences. I truely hope you find a job that suits your talents and gives you the happiness of a hobby. Best of luck to you. Doeboy
