Yesterday's lucky find. Based on what I read in the 4th edition, I believe this to be pretty early production. Possibly the ninetieth gun off the production floor in 1931. Serial number is 632222. I jumped on it because I didn't have one in the collection, and it was priced right! $899.99 with tax, it cost me $957.10. Others that I've seen in lesser condition were $1200 and up in my neck of the woods.

That is definitely early production...I foolishly let my 1932 lettered example escape my grasp last year to a fellow collector who wanted a companion to his 1932 Deuce coupe...Now I only have my lonely 1939 shipped K-22 OD...It's lonely too...:(...Ben

OP got a great gun for a great price, for that good of condition OD.
I would be tickled to make a find like that.

I hope you enjoy that one.

Nice pickup Dino44! It’s definitely early, but I’m not sure how you came up with the 19th number though. The new 5th edition says that the serial numbers started 632124, and that Doug Wesson was presented the first one with serial number 632132 on 1/3/1931. I own serial number 632157 and it shipped on 1/17/1931. And crazy enough, my letter says that the first K-22 Outdoorsman was given to Douglas B. Wesson on January 3, 1931, and the serial number was 632118. I need to ask Roy or Don about that discrepancy!

i notice the rear site has a single screw into the frame. when did s&w change to the double screw site? my 1938 OD has the double screw. serial# 66255x

I based my comment on what I see in my 4th edition. D.B. Wesson was given the first gun, serial number 632132. Mine being 632222 - 632132 = 90. Ninetieth not nineteen. Thank you and the other folks who have posted their shipping dates. I am going to letter mine anyways. Even though you all have gotten me in the ballpark. Hopefully it shipped somewhere interesting.

I don't have a definitive answer. The photos of Richards guns (RKmesa) in the 4th edition suggests, it occurred between serial numbers 635065 and 679290.

Trying to narrow it down a bit more - I have seen the single-screw rear sight as high as the mid 639XXXs (March 1932). 647954 is the next one in my collection. It has the two-screw rear sight and shipped in December 1934.

My K-22 Outdoorsman serial #638177 has the original, single screw rear sight. I do not have a ship date yet but am guessing early 1932.

I have 638412, shipped in Sept of 1931. Gold bead front sight, single screw rear sight,
all numbers matching including grips. Probably 97% condition
