All,

I saw this piece on Gunbroker on Sunday evening. It sat at $500 through most of the evening. I placed a bid I won it at $515.00.

It arrived in Cheyenne today and I am very happy. I will test fire it on Tuesday.

You got a great deal,
Proud sight pins likely a 1953 IIRC,
Stock medallions are likely stainless steel instead of nickel plated brass as well.
Congrats.

Great gun at a great price. I love the ".22 Combat Masterpiece" (the name the factory ascribed to the 4" target sighted K Frame 22s - as Alan noted above), especially the ones with the proud front sight pins.:) When the factory assigned its guns model numbers, this one became the Model 18.

One note - the screw on the side plate behind the trigger guard with the flat head is the screw that typically goes on the side plate under the right grip. The one behind the trigger guard is typically a domed screw (like the one on the side plate above and in front of the trigger). My guess is that the domed screw is under the grips - they are easy to swap with a correct fitted screwdriver.:)

Congrats!!!

A 5 screw Combat Masterpiece, pre-model 18 for $515 Thats some Deal. Congratulations on a great score. A Tyler grip adapter and you're good to go.

Richard,

You were correct on the flat head screw. The screws have been swapped and the grips fit better! Does this look better?

Got to the range today and fired four cylinders of ammo. I began having difficult extraction after the third cylinder. Brought the revolver home and cleaned out the chambers with a cylinder reamer. Got lots of shavings out of the chambers. Reamed them and then polished each chamber with JB bore paste for 30 seconds with a drill at low speed. I will try again on Friday.

Sweet! Is the finish kind of dull; almost matte?

I just inherited one from an elderly friend. It's at the gun shop, which is closed until Wednesday. It's a 4- or 5-screw model. He also left me a Model 19, which has the nicest polish work and blueing I've seen on a Smith. The finish on the K22 and Model 19 are worlds apart.

Was the K22 "Satin Blue" actually a matte finish (and was that standard or an option)? (And was there a high polish option on the Model 19, or did they all look that good?)
