He will be missed by many. I am so glad that I never achieved the kind of success that required me to speak eloquently of or travel in the same circles with this sector or our society.

It is a shame that the good achievements of a mans life would be overshadowed by the many poor choices he would make.

The small segment I saw with Katie this morning I found interesting in the fact that she never mentioned his military service.

While others were serving in Korea he was climbing the Matterhorn on leave.

I'm not saying a word.

However, you can look at their legacy, whether it be true, right and honest or whether it be that of a nave or rouge.


This is the time lads to analyze our own actions, and see what we can do differently to change things around us for the better- one problem or person at a time. No, not that kind of "change" that is some big political buzzword, but that of personal intervention.

Whether that is saying "thank you" to your wife of many years for something small,
and telling her how much you love, cherish and appreciate her....
Whether it's giving some encouragement to someone that needs it....
Or giving a helping hand to someone not as fortunate and truly needs reaching out to...
Or applying a good swift kick instead of a "handout" to your brother that really needs it, and it will encourage him to do better.
Or just staying out of a situation that ain't your business anyway to protect your own...skin.
Or learn how to swim and keep one a carbide-tipped punch at the ready in your car, and give at least one to a loved one for his or her car too.

It isn't worth hashing the dead, but helping the living is what we should do now.
Let the dead bury their dead.

He lived in the world of the rich and elite. From his ivory tower, he never could separate gun violence to everyday people wanting to defend themselves and the Constitution. If he had it his way, he would have stripped the entire populace, save the criminals, of their weapons leaving citizens defenseless against thugs and tyranny. His views led us away from self-reliance, working for the good things in life; not govt. hand-outs in every aspect of life.
I respected his service to the country, but his ultra-liberal views left me disillusioned....

I was sorry for Mary Jo, but keep in mind that she was knowingly with a married man when he drove off the bridge and drowned her. She was with Teddy because he was famous and showed her a good time, I guess...like the other women who found the Kennedy brothers attractive.

As for the gentleman who posted that Teddy Kennedy was a rapist, I think he may have Ted confused with his nephew, a doctor who barely beat a rape charge. But wasn't Ted present that night, too? Again, I'd feel more for the lady had she not been with the men she was, looking for glory in their shadows, I guess. She'd been drinking in a bar before going off with the doctor to the Kennedy estate.

Is that about how it played out? I'm going by memory here. I think the bar was called Au Bar?

Does anyone recall the infamous photo of a philandering Ted and a young lady in a boat, as they were being quite affectionate? Another Senator quipped that Kennedy seemed to have changed his position on "offshore drilling."

Is this "blame the victim"? The responsibility lies with the spoiled, self-indulgent, entitlement-mentality of certain very wealthy, powerful people who think that money will give them a free pass on any behavior at all.

I intensely disliked Ted Kennedy who was a hypocrite. His family came to wealth and power by bootlegging whisky. His father was a separatist while ambassador to the U.K and he himself was a drunk and a bad driver. He was a supporter of the I.R.A., a terrorist organization and yet he tried to take guns away from law abiding Americans.
Sentiments aside, the facts should be considered.
What did he achieve for our tax dollars.
He had the luxury of engaging in politics as more of a hobby.

Regardless of any supposed intentions as to the presence of Mary Jo in Ted's car, the point is that he was DUI, failed to render aid in a fatal accident, saved himself, left the scene, and didn't report it until hours afterwards. I would think most of us would most likely be charged with negligent manslaughter, and find ourselves in criminal and civil court.
Ted received a 2 month probated sentence for leaving the scene of an accident.
I think BarbC's post is very appropriate.

Ted Kennedy probably did more damage to this country than anything. He and his fuzzy notions were behind the 1965 revision to the immigration laws, which essentially changed the makeup of this country permanently. Whether that was (is) good or not is up for discussion, but to do it by sleight of hand is another thing.

I think that's where he and a lot of other liberals learned how much change can be rammed through by good old boys in committee. Remember the old saying--"No man's life, liberty, or property is safe when the legislature is in session."

His tenure is just about the same time period in which my faith in government evaporated. Odd.

Yes, but both of you misunderstood my point. I wasn't at all excusing Kennedy. I was addressing whether she used good judgement, herself. That DOES NOT mean that I think she got what was coming to her. I'm not that mean-spirited. But she should have behaved differently, and she wouldn't have been in the car with him.

Nor would the girl who went to the Kennedy estate after so many drinks have had a problem had she had better judgement. The Kennedy lad still shouldn't have persisted if she really didn't want to play, though. As for Ted's role in that, I don't recall just what she said he did.

What he SHOULD have done was to tell the nephew to cool it, and seen that the girl got home safely.

As I recall, the jury did acquit the nephew. That says something about what they thought of the matter.

Back up a couple of posts. Read what I said. I DID NOT say that I think she deserved what happened to her, just that she should have used better judgement than to get into a car with a man of Kennedy's reputation when he had obviously been drinking. His marital status was also a factor, although she may have just thought he was giving her a ride home.

I am in NO WAY excusing what he did, which I think was typical of his character. I despised the man. I'm just amazed that girls would go anywhere with him. I have my theories why this was, and it applies to other famous men. But I've said enough, particularly as what I said seems to have been misunderstood.
